General Shoup

For the sake of a little balanced history, you might inform your readers that General Shoup was a vocal opponent of the Vietnam War, and (here's the real surprise) a vocal supporter of John Kerry and the Vietnam Veterans Against the War back in 1971.

You could say the same thing about Congressman Paul McCloskey, former Marine lieutenant, whose Navy Cross citation from Korea may or may not end up on your blog one of these days.

do you have a link to back this up? Not that I doubt you, it'd just interesting to study that. And please. No left wing kook blogs. You can't trust 90% of whats on them. Thanks! DD

Douglas MacArthur also told LBJ that getting involved in SEA was a losing issue but he didn't listen.

If Shoup supported Hanoi John, it was because he did not know that Johnny wrote his own PH citations, Hanoi John had not sold out the POW/MIA's yet, or did private negotiations with the Commies at the Paris Peace talks. BTW, it's a felony to privately negotiate with a foreign power like John did.

I read where Shoup was against the Vietnam War and most likely, it was the way LBJ and the liberals were fighting it, piecemeal and half-azzed.

If You Think Shoup Was Against the War

Try reading, "War Is A Racket" by MGen Smedley Butler, USMC and, I believe, holder of the CMH.

I'll look for it at the library.
