Superb commentary

In our post-modern world where supposed champions of our "freedom" can't countenance the "dogmatic" precepts of religion, the notion of "conscience" in the moral sphere is entirely foreign because it's not grounded in anything other than an ethics defined by the moment.

The path of least moral resistance and maximum satisfaction of pleasure, or avoidance of pain--moral or physical--is their version of "conscience."

The great Catholic apologist, G.K. Chesterton, in his seminal but rarely read work, "Heretics," wrote that he embraced the dogmatic asepcts of his religion, because he knew that it's only those precepts that have been in existence long enough to be called "archaic," and that those in the thrall of moral fashion, can be readily found in the ashes of history.
