emjayne, my thinking was that the Islamist extremists are the one who wish to be martyrs, and I would be all too happy to accommodate them, and any other miserable clod that begged to be released from their human form.

As I recall, when Ike was Pres (I like Ike!), and Sky King flew over the Lone Ranger, I was delighted to eat my non-vitamin-enriched Cheerios, and the world had 3.6 billion fewer people. OK, I needed to practice crawling under my desk to "escape" a direct nuclear hit, but I could get 10 Mike & Ike candies for a penny.

Perhaps that predates your idyllic time, but your "good old days" were probably pretty cool, too.

I just read an article entitled "Carbon Output Must Near Zero To Avert Danger, New Studies Say." The article actually said, "The task of cutting greenhouse gas emissions enough to avert a dangerous rise in global temperatures may be far more difficult than previous research suggested, say scientists who have just published studies indicating that it would require the world to cease carbon emissions altogether within a matter of decades."

Cease carbon emissions altogether? That would involved killing off every carbon-based life form on the planet. What purpose would the earth serve then?

I believe that global warming/climate change will cease to be a "crisis" when people actually have to start paying for it.
