Yet Another Reason There Should Be Term Limits in Congress: Teddy Kennedy

Term Limits
Excellent article. Without limits, politicians like Kennedy begin to believe they are indispensible public servants. I have to hold my nose every time they call themselves "public servants." Excellent pay, superior healthcare, pensions (they don't pay into Social Security), liberal spending accounts, fact finding trips around the world with their wives, planes at their disposal, free dinners, and all the adulation anyone could want. 95% of them could not even run a small business. Most of them are crooks. We need to get them out.
3 terms for House members, 1 for the Senate. But how do we make it happen?

thats the hard part
They would have to vote for it. So that won't happen easy. Probably would require a amendment to the constitution, since congress wouldn't do it on its own, also very hard to do. Voter outrage, a crisis or a scandal so big that they would be forced to do so. The scandals so far, even though pretty big, haven't done it yet. A scandal would have to be so big, that would have to include almost all of Congress, is what would have to happen, my guess.

the problem is
the long term stay because they are hard to get rid of. They got more money, more name recognition, party support etc. No one is so "good" that they should stay in office 30 years plus. The founding fathers didn't want it, the voters really don't but the parties want it. They run the same old because they think they can win with that. The longer your there the more likely you can be corrupted. That's the best reason to clean house more often. I wish more voters would get the long term out. It would be better for democracy to return congress to the citizens, not having people who's life "work" is politician. A congressman should remain a temp job, something a business owner, a saleguy, a steelworker, etc does for a short time. They should be decribing themselves by the real job they do, not that they are a congressman.
