Uniting the party of Republicans

Sanity...

In the GOP, you have those who want it conservative and those who want it liberal...both are fighting each other...this is a formula for failure...

Those of us who are conservative, but recognize we have to add to our numbers, are the ones who lose, and the radical left wins.

You are probably right here, Sanity

But so what?

And do you think the Dems were not taken over by the hard left who then dictated exactly what the party did?

Here's the point: do we want to be like them with no freedom of choice within the party?

Do we want to make us that much more mindless?

Sheila,

tell me, who in the GOP wants to it to be liberal?

Even pro-abortion Rudy and Arnold didn't demand that the party of Republicans become more like them.

You want to be the ones that decide to spend on defending our nation or spend a trillion on global warming, appoint judges that define marriages and protect babies and keep our word to our allies or appease our enemies?

Then make sure that everyone that enters your tent parks their other parties' agenda at the front door.

It's that simple.

VDad

Mmm a choice between the hard Left mindlessness or hard Right mindlessness?

How about the party of Republicans being able to run their own agenda and all those who want to enter her tent RESPECT that agenda?

As for "so what" about being probably right?

It's like terrorism...you have to have the probability on your side every time because get it wrong once...just once and you get a guy in the White House, leader of the free world telling us that the cause of this economy is:

1-global warming
2-not enough education
3-national health care.

Sanity

You ask Sheila this:

'Sheila,
tell me, who in the GOP wants to it to be liberal?'

How about McCain, for one. Or Lindsay Graham? Or Susan COllins?

You list a good one, too, Arnie. Didn't he just say that he lied while campaigning or something along those lines? What has been conservative about CA since he took office?

Do you want to hear some more?

And your response to me needs some clarification... I am not sure I get it, unless you are saying terrorism is your one issue? Is it mine? Nope.

None of the people you name

especially McCain wants the party of Republican to be liberal. None has accused those who don't agree with them 100% of the time as not being Republicans. Show me where McCain or even Rudy DEMANDED Republicans adopt a pro-choice stand or fund planned parenthood or a zillion liberal programs? Show me which Liberal wants to cut taxes the way McCain did or refuse pork the way McCain has for 20 plus years?

Some Republicans may be pro-abortion, some may be anti-war, some may even be for pork...but NONE of them has demanded that the entire party of Republicans CHANGE to a Liberal ideology.

That is solely the demand and the agenda of the "principled" conservatives.

As for clarification

I do not know how many ways to say this:

I have 3 issues:

1- the courts (pro-life, pro-marriage)
2- the economy (lower taxes, less spending)
3- the war on terror

the last supercedes the other two.

I made a promise a long time ago...I promised to come back to TH and ask if joining the Liberals in finding fault with Bush and the GOP was worth it.

Which is what all the these posts are about.

As Obama and the Dems spend 7.4 trillion of our children's future...as we see our retirement and wealth go up in smoke...I am asking WAS YOUR LITTLE NIT PICKING WORTH IT?

I ask that same question when abortion is funded and medical personnel no longer have the right of refusal.

You may answer YES, MY PRINCIPLES (minus loyalty of course)ARE WORTH BASHING THE ONLY VIABLE PARTY THAT AGREES WITH ME ON THESE ISSUES.

But VDad, I have zero doubt when an American city is taken out because Obama tried to appease those who would kill us, you will answer...no.

And that part about terrorism not being the only issue...tell that to those families who has to repeat 9/11 because people like you FORGOT.

Did I say terror was not important?

I think not.

I only said it was not my only issue.

Actually, it could be argued many GOP ers have no problem allowing pro choice legislation through, or might object only a little to higher taxes, and might be more apt to let leftist judges through for the sake of "reaching across the aisle."

Another history question: who said "Read my lips-- no new taxes." Answer: Bush I, a member of the Grand Ole Party. As to Collins and the other two who voted for the stimulus package-- did they vote to keep our taxes down, or government out of our lives? How many in the GOP have voted to bail out various industries now? Do you really believe our taxes will not rise because of these initiatives?

Sanity, if I were to give one piece of advise to you in these discussions: tone the rhetoric down. To be honest, I don't think even the most ardent conservatives who encouraged no votes this go round want a split in the GOP. What they want are candidates who won't vote billions of dollars to bail out poorly run businesses or people who bought more house than they could afford, thus raising our taxes, if not now, down the road.

And believe it or not, I am NOT one of those ardent conservatives. I have told you, I voted for McCain because I could not in good faith put this baffoon we have in office now. I happilly voted Bush II twice. I would prefer more conservative candidates, but I won't throw the baby out with the bath water unless I have a good reason. So far, I have not found that reason.

It's time VDad

There WILL come a time when the party of Republicans will take back Congress and the WH...not just because of all the money we are spending. But because Obama will get us attacked again. It is time to decide if you are going to spend the next majority bashing the Republican party or you are going to defend her from attacks from without and within.

You gave me advise so let me return the favor. Conservatives have given that word a bad name. As Democrats have started to use the term "progressive" so too the Republicans must drop the term that many voters see as unforgiving, racist, and intolerant--and who seem to offer their loyalty like an old hooker that doesn't know she's past her glory days.

Either stand by the party or move on.

And if you have decided to stay, then fight for that party as if this nation's survival depends on it--because it does.

You've written that you want this party to unite; well it won't as long as Republicans keep trying to appease conservatives that won't even call themselves Republicans. Conservatives aka Libertarians aka Constitutionist (or whatever they are calling themselves now) are NOT the party of Reagan (with his 11th commandment) or the party of Bush, Condi, and anyone else that has done this nation proud. They and their party understood political reality. Their members CHOSE McCain and this choice was not honored by many who claim to be the base. This alone should tell you something.

As for a split

I agree, REPUBLICANS do not want a split and neither do conservatives. The latter wants to take it over. They can not win with their 3rd party, cannot get their 3rd party candidate on the GOP ticket, but SOMEHOW, they are supposed to win the WH and Congress! It is I, as one of those 60% that give either party their victory, that believes that the unhealthy relationship must end or it will destroy the only party that is serious about the war, the courts, and the economy.

About lessons: don't you know VDad that most politicians learn the hard way that campaigns rhetoric is very different from reality? That is why Bush1 had to go back on his "read my lips" and why Obama's isn't closing Guantanamo quite yet. It is why Reagan lowered taxes and had to raise them back up again. Why Bush2 had to give senior citizens prescription drugs--to take the Republicans hate senior citizens idea off the table.

As for those 3 senators who voted for the bill...sigh, every time I hear the ranting I wonder if any of them have ever been in a board meeting, ever brokered a deal, ever chaired a project. It would really be nice if politicians all lived in states that mirrored their political views overwhelming...but most do not.

You, who are fond of lessons...take one from Romney who was pro-choice when running for Governor--and pro-life when running for president.

The flip flop doesn't make him anything but what he is: a politician.
