The requirement for Federal employees to swear an oath of allegiance was the very first federal law enacted.
And, a person not of Christian faith can be sworn in with his hand on any book he holds dear, and can swear to his own diety. The idea is for him to swear the oath to what he holds as sacred.
A Bible is not required.

But what are you supposed to do Dean when the idiot voters keep voting these enemies of the Constitution into office?
I've never had Townhall stop me from posting anything in the last 2 years. Why on earth would they stop you from posting the Senate oath? What happened, did they send you an email forbidding you from doing this? Or what? DD

FABULOUS!
That oath is simply not taken the way it should be. We have all these corrupt and completely immoral people in office for the purpose of defending our rights and they trample on them every single last chance that they get!
I thought most of these nutbags studied Constitutional Law? Obviously wasn't OUR Constitution they were studying!

Hello Dean,
Shame, Shame, shame, on the American voters and the so called "Representatives" in office.
It appears that either they do not understand, appreciate, or even care about the US Constitution. God help us , my fellow patriot .
The elected officials are more concered with power, money, ego, and special interests, than with what is best for America and the American people. Shame, Shame, Shame.

They claim to have studied the Constitution. However, these people often seem devoid of understanding. They are enabled by an even more abysmally clueless MSM. Recent example:
CNN's highly touted voice of the vacuous, Campbell Brown - (Who names their daughter after soup?) - hosted a discussion concerning a potential problem facing Hillary's cabinet selection. That pesky thing called the Constitution, and its Emoluments Clause. To help clarify, soup girl brought on Jeffrey Toobin, CNN's “Senior Legal Analyst” (That description from Toobin's own website http://www.jeffreytoobin.com/jeffrey/ ). What followed is enough to make you want to push a pencil through your eyeball:
TOOBIN: That’s one way of doing it. Another way of dealing with the problem is simply for Hillary Clinton to take less money. Another way is simply to ignore Judicial Watch, because it’s pretty clear that Judicial Watch doesn’t have the right -- doesn’t have standing to file the lawsuit. But there is this clause in the Constitution -- it’s called the Emoluments Clause, and there will have to be some way to address it. But I think Hillary Clinton is safe -- she is going to be secretary.
BROWN: I mean, this is fascinating because we are -- the Constitution is not something you necessarily want to muck around with.
TOOBIN: Well, you know, and I have read the Constitution many times. This is something I consider my field. I had never noticed this clause before. It’s Article One, Section Six. It’s there. It does appear to be a problem, but you put lawyers to work and there are ways around it.
BROWN: And you would know -- spoken like a true legal scholar.

If he'd read it 'many times', then I'd think he'd have run across that one before now. I admit I don't always get everything the first time I read something, but by the fourth or fifth time through I've generally seen all of it, even if not during each runthrough.
Maybe he's reading the Cliff's Notes version? (For that matter, assuming that of many of our political figures would make things suddenly make sense...)

First, let me say that TownHall did NOT censore my post in any way.
The problem I had was a technical glitch with their posting program. I was able to link the house site but when I tried to link the senate site it would not do so. Could be operator error on my part, being new and all, but I think it was bugged on that session. When I get time I'll ask around and see if I was doing the link in the proper manner.
On your other point, THEY would like to think the Constitution is a living document, it is OUR job to make sure it is not.

It does seem like the oath is a technicality or just something to pretend to observe. I think we have seen that it really does not mean much to them at all.
And I do agree with Bobbie. It seems they are all in it for themselves and have forgotten about the American people. You know those folks who actually voted for them and put them in the office. So now they can run amuck with their greed and own agendas and whatever other fun stuff they like to do. Sell Senate seats, hang out with prostitutes, put money in their freezers, forget to pay taxes, get special favors, etc....

That is a good question.
I do have one of my Representatives from here in Wa. that I trust....so far. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-WA. She was just re-elected after her freshman term and has not gotten into any trouble that I am aware of. We'll see.
One of the problems I see in all of our representatives, regardless of party, is towing the party line. I find it offensive when one of my representatives votes differently than their constituents beliefs just because they are following their party line. Grow a pair and vote your constituents beliefs!
Oh yeah, and if you don't know how your constituents feel on an issue ASK them! In this cyber age what does it take to send out a questionnaire? Congressional Aides can whip one up in a jiffy. If constituents want to be a part of the discussion they need to get online and do so.

Good points. This reminds me of the $700 billion bailout. Remember if we did not do this the world was going to end.
On the Senate floor was Senator Feinstein (CA). Now she gets up there and starts talking and babbling about the phones/emails that she has gotten against this bailout. It was about 80% against it. So, what does she do, "yes!" Get real. Vote for the people that helped get you there.
I am also tired of the "agendas" that these people have. Obama is kidding himself if he thinks that Pelosi does not have her own agenda. She re-wrote it after he won. The woman is so power hungry she has no clue what Americans want.
Glad you have a good person. Our Senators, Feinstein and Boxer need to be axed. Of course Feinstein is the lesser of two evils. Boxer is always running around "going green!"

The II Amendment “the right to bear Arms” is a ‘fail-safe’ set in place for “We the People of the United States” to insure the security of a free state …when government no longer sees fit to support the Constitution.

Anyone caught leaking national security information to the press or exposing it to the public in any other manner, should be lined up and shot for treason on public television.
The First Amendment should NOT cover these sleeze bag, so called "journalists". There should not be such a thing as a "confidential informant" when it comes to the security of our country. If a journalist will not reveal his source then he should be treated just like he obtained the information first hand himself. Obtaining national security information when unauthorized to do so makes that person a spy, subject to said punishments.
