2nd Day at Gettysburg "Solidified" the..

Union victory of the 1st day (IMHO). The sacrifice of the Iron Brigade (1/1/1) and Gen. Reynolds was vindicated. Many historians say that the 1st day at Gettysburg were a defeat for the Union. But Shelby Foote, Fletcher Pratt, and I disagree.

But enough of my thoughts on the Civil War; otherwise I would start talking about Patrick Cleburne and Nathan Bedford Forrest. (If only the Army of Tennessee would have had Cleburne as its leader with Forrest in complete command of all of its calvary!)

Not only is Bush43 looking better and better; but it appears that Obama is about to wrest defeat from the jaws of victory in Iraq. It is so apparent that Obama and his advisors DO NOT HAVE A CLUE ABOUT THE MILITARY.

From every source that I have in the US Military (including every rank from private to Bird Col.), I am getting no end of SERIOUS complaints. These complaints cover every subject from operational orders to day-to-day "house keeping". Obama has been disrespectful of the US Military, and the troops are starting to be more than resentful.

Obama better hope that US citizens do not go into open revolt. He will be lucky if a KP squad comes to his aid.

I also had disagreements on some of Bush's policies, but he was not an arrogant empty suit, as is our current president. Bush was also very respectful of our troops, something Obama has rarely shown.

More people see this and the republicans winning two of the three elections, Hoffman was close for an independent, could mean something. It doesn't mean that we will stop continuing pressure through phone calls, letters, and tea parties!

I also love history. My wife has a huge wealth of knowledge of the the feudal societies in Europe and I have studied into WW1 and WW2. One of my earliest post entitled NUTS is one. I loved that story.

Not only are Democrats

ignorant of Civil War History and History in general, they don't even know what happened last week or last night for that matter. Of course, even if they do somehow become enlightened about anything past or present, they will lie about it as if that will change the facts. For instance, Pelosi was on the tube today with that plastic smile glued to her face talking about the Democrat's electoral victories last night.I immagine you're very correct about W. having a good laugh. You're also right about him looking better and better. I miss W. How 'bout you?

I miss George too

Since he moved to Dallas, I've been expecting him to invite me over for BBQ and long-necks, but I'm still waiting. I'm sure he's been busy. Up until 2006, as you say, he was doing a pretty good job - after 2006, not so good. But still a gumptillion times better than Owe-bama. I think that (real) history will sort out the good and bad of both Bush and Owe-bama and I suspect that the score will be something like 42 to 3 in favor of Boosh.

If those ACORN creeps are going to steal elections and make a mockery of the democratic system it will be on their heads if others decide not to sit there and not react. The US Military is evil according to the Obamunists. Chickens roosting and all that stuff. Thats the kind of history they know.

For me, Skep41, W is NOT looking better.

Back in April I charted America's "progress" from liberty toward statism through the Articles, the Constitution, and the 220-ish years following.

It showed that George W. Bush with Republicans in majorities in both the House and Senate, continued the country's move to the left toward statism, albeit at a much-slower pace than, say, FDR, Woodrow Wilson, LBJ and Jimmy Carter.

The fascist-revolutionary oligarchy with President Obama as its titular head (and turtle atop the fencepost) has put that slide on steroids, moving the government to more than 85% unconstitutional versus 80% at inauguration.

Like at the optometrist, it is an iterative world, i.e., better or worse, better or worse. Nonetheless, if I were going to wax nostalgic for better days, I'd probably have to wish for a Washington or Jefferson, with Reagan as the best of the 20th century.

Bush 43 gave us McCain-Feingold, Medicare Part D, a doubling of the unconstitutional Department of Education, wide-open borders, government intrusikon into faith-based charities.

Calling the Prissy Poltroon POTUS an empty suit is an insult to suits.

You dont think that the failure of the Rebs to seize the high ground on the first day lost the subsequent battle?

Eric

Bush had his bad points but I dont disrespect him. I just disagree. He can be proud of his term in office. It is not stained by lies or corruption like his predecessor and his successor.

I'll check out 'Nuts'

Its called Doublethink. Feminists can give passionate speeches about how its OK for a powerful executive to use his young female employees at work because its just his private life. Liberals know what they're told to know.

When you get to the BBQ tell W I said hi! You can say what you will about W but in comparison he's a giant.

Dr Pete

Yup. Bush is more like Nixon than Reagan. I've loudly denounced all those things you're talking about. But W is a decent, self-respecting human being. Say that about BJ or BHO, I dare you!

Georgetwin-Say It Aint So!

Are you calling me a suitist?

Just my two cents worth but, yes, I have always thought that Gettysburg was lost on day one, not by force of Union arms, but by the ANV violating the rules of combat. When your enemy is retreating, never let them have time to dig in and never, never, give up the high ground.

BTW, remember that on day one Reynolds became a "good" Yankee.

I'm not nostalgic about Bush. I feel like I've merely traded frustration for anger. I will give him credit for not assaulting everything I have ever held to be true about America on a daily basis.

I have certainly read enough about the end of a republic but I never thought to actually see it happen. I see my fellow Americans extending their arms to receive their chains with an adoring smile.

It's sad.
