BBC Says They're Too Smart For Audience

The Beeb

It takes an enormous leap of perspective to say that the BBC, the most carefully researched, vetted and balanced news organization in the world, is leftist. I suppose it's easier if you automatically conflate the Taliban with the Left (the Taliban is actually Fascist), but I think your charge of leftist bias is hallucinatory. I'm using that word instead of illusory on purpose.

The great conundrum at the BBC is they are obligated to provide public service television; at the same time they have to compete with commerical television and that crap wins every time. Britain doesn't need dumb TV from the BBC. They import that from us.

Attacked as leftist?

By whom? (Had I used "by Who" you might conclude by Dr. Who, and he seldom attacks, only defends.) I hadn't seen any complaints of that nature.

The report doesn't say either

That's why I asked. The fact that the report mentions it in a completely unrelated story (the article is about program quality, not politics) makes me suspect sloppy or right-wing-biased reporting. Looking at the Telegraph's opinion pages today, there is an anti-war trend there. However, there the war is a Labour Party issue, so maybe the Telegraph is a conservative paper. Since Murdoch isn't behind it, I'll give the paper benefit of the doubt but that doesn't mean that one reporter doesn't have an axe to grind.

Now on to this - the BBC referenced you? You claimed the organization is leftist, the refuted you. How does this prove they are leftist? Why doesn't it prove that they care enough about impartiality to refute attacks like that?

I was hoping you'd say this

"I guess what I am saying is that, as more and more people come to see the BBC's bias, there MUST be something to it. It isn't just a small number of people."

We're losing the war! Bush claimed Iran was linked to 9/11! There's something to the Attorney General scandal! Scooter Libby was fired for covering up crimes by Karl Rove!

I could go on, but I'll need access to more polls.

What this proves to me

...is an anti-BBC agenda on the part of the Telegraph. Which I can understand, because they ARE the competition.

Skeptical

Unfortunately I can't load the daily mail at work (must be a firewall thing) but I'm willing to bet that "the BBC is dominated by trendy, Left-leaning liberals who are biased against Christianity and in favour of multiculturalism" is not a direct quote from someone at the BBC. Am I wrong?

If you consider diversity

Exclusively a left-wing thing, then yes, they are biased towards that and I agree. Of course, that puts you in a position where the opposite of diversity is a right-wing thing.

Missed it again

I need to call the home office - my code book is way out of date. In the one I have, "diversity" is code for "courtesy."
