The only way we truly get to such a thing is if Romney manages to win enough delegates to block a McCain-Huckabee West Virginia-type collaboration. Under the scenario above, that doesn't happen, though Romney would appear to be in the driver seat. Politics make for strange bedfellows, so you're right, anything's possible, and the way things have gone makes it hard to predict.

Still, Huckabee can only be in it for the purpose of currying favor, or improving his own run in four or eight years. Even under the scenario you outline, which could actually be generous, he has no chance of the nomination this time around.
