If our government would get its nose out of industry, these companies could and would put a healthy chunk of these obscene profits into setting up to drill ANWR, offshore, and/or in the shale fields of the Northern Plain States. In a few months, we would have volume of oil from our own sources to drop the bottom out of prices. If our government would really pull its head out of its backside, we would be able to build nuclear plants and refineries and cut energy costs even further. Just on the promise of these changes coming, prices would drop somewhat in the short term because some of the price is built by speculation. Our congress is incompetent and clueless and will prolong this into a real recession if they get what they want.

I actually saw Maxine doing her big bad routine. You know, I would like to see her take over the oil companies. I am sure that when she threatened them, they were just ready to hand over the keys.

Back in May of this year, she had this to say, "I am proud to be a part of the Democratic majority in Congress that is moving America in a New Direction, including taking steps to lower gas prices." Wow! And those prices are really on the decline and by the way what would those steps be?

"We passed legislation to promote clean, renewable alternative energy." And how is that working out for you?

"We have passed legislation to crack down on gas price gouging, to oversee market manipulation, to hold OPEC accountable for price fixing and to repeal subsidies to profit-rich Big Oil companies." I did like this one the best. We have gas stations that have jumped $0.20 over night, plus CA pays a $0.15 clean air tax (actually I can't remember the name of it).
