Misapperception of Democracy

Democracy

The image I use to describe the difference between a "constitutional republic" and a democracy is the following:

A constitutional republic is like a blueprint of the first floor of a house. A democracy is like a home with flesh and blood people in it living our tempestuous and certain lives.

Like Monster House?

I take it therefore that you believe that a democracy is a higher evolved level of government? More progressive than a constitutional republic?

so easy

to interchange the two words, yet they do have very distinct meanings. And I wonder how many in Washington would be able to describe the differences between the two as succinctly as you just did.

Democracy is Bad

How about citizens being able to understand the differences? That is what worries me...

Barnett

Asks that same thing...how many truly understand the difference. When an interviewer asks McCain "when will you stop doing what you want and start doing what the people want?" in regard to the war, it shows a flawed understanding of the role of leaders, and seems to say that most people, including prominent journalists, assume we are a democracy by their questions and are too lazy or ignorant to differentiate between that and a Constitutional Republic?

I said on Barnetts blog, I wonder if journalists should be required to minor in history or government. Maybe they should just pass a test to show they uunderstand basic American politics before they perpetuate stupidity on national television.

Doc, you'll know I figured it out when you see a picture posted. Alas, as of now I am failing. I really don't know why a simple cut and paste won't work when everyone I have asked says that's the way to proceed...
