Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?

You're right, but too wordy

I suffer from bloviation myself, but you (and I) need shorter, sharper, more frequent posts.

(When I see my own reflected mistakes in you, I see them so clearly...)

There is a big missing Myth:
The Good, Strong King who is never-the-less fighting with weak, evil, villians.

If he's strong, why hasn't he won?
If he's good, why does anybody support the evil ones?

Iraq is Harry Potter, the US is Ron+ Hermione+ Dumbledore.

Iraq is Frodo, not the USA.

Normally I don't take the time to read such a long blog. But your mention of "Cowboys" caught my attention. Because I am a "real"
cowboy, born and raised on a working cattle ranch in Colo. I was seventeen when I left to join the military to fight in the Korean war. The military ( spec opps) provided me with an excellent start in Electronics. When discharged I went to UCLA and got my Electronics Engineering degree. And is how I've made my living ever since.

I agree with all that you say here and have witnessed same. It used to be a mans "word" was his pride and honor! No longer so in todays world. I couldn't count the many times I've taken a man "at his word" and been betrayed! I guess that's all part of growing up in this Liberal, deceitful world. But I've learned!

My roots will always be in the Cowboy mentality of real men and honesty. You know something, I can't even stand to shake the hand of most men today. It's like holding a cold slimy piece jello.

I could go on but I'll just say..Great blog MaZed! Keep up the good fight!

Speaking of Cowboys

.....Maczed...

.....I can recommend one of my all time favorite westerns..."Shane" starring Alan Ladd...a classic tale of good vs. evil...

.....I was surprised to see how popular the movie was in Japan when I went through there in 1951...it has since become a cult classic...

.....good luck in OCS...remember the motto..."Follow Me".....COLOSSUS

Mac Z,

Nice post, if a little wordy. You do get on a good roll. A couple of observations:

1. Unfortunately, deconstructionism has all but destroyed the dictionary. It is impossible to argue using a dictionary with someone who does not find the dictionary valid. This does not mean that we should abandon the dictionary, the clear meaning of words, but it does highlight our challenge. Is there a way to bridge the gap? You might check out this article by Mark Goldblatt, "Can Humanists Talk to Postmodernists?" at:

2. Speaking of white and black hats, ever notice the trend to glorify bad guys? When I was a kid, everyone wanted to be the good guy, the super hero. You had to make believe there were bad guys because no one wanted to be one. Today, it is almost the other way around. My brother-in-law and I were talking a while back about how when we were kids, we wanted to be Luke Skywalker (as did everyone). Now, everyone wants to be Darth Maul. We do have our work cut out for us.

Talking about glorifying the bad guys...
