I fully agree, Salty
I've had the same conversation with friends who say Obambi's a socialist or communist.
I tell them he's actually a fascist, following the same path as Hitler and Mussolini in semi-nationalizing private industry.

This is exactly one of the main reasons why I did not want there to be a bailout of banks and private companies. Not only is it corporate welfare, from now on the government will be taking over the businesses and demanding the head seat at the table for all decisions. In other words "economic fascism" as you brillantly point out here. Thanks for the comments on my post.

I have had conversations with liberals of late who insist that communism and socialism are different. Either way, we lose. And it becomes as Brian said-fascist
To quote the lib:
"Exactly what is Obama doing that is pushing us towards socialism? Americans believe in and benefit from socialized programs each and everyday in most aspects of their life. Do you drive down public roads? Did you or do your kids attend public schools? Ever go to the library? Do you have home owners, auto and/or life insurance? All of these are socialized programs. We spread out risks and resources across the board.
Unfortunately, too many people equate socialism with communism and they are not even closely related. We are the only wealthy industrialized nation that does not have national health care yet we spend the most, per capita, on health care but we rank way down the list on quality."
I'm sure this guy will be happy to let Obama do the job of telling us what cars we can build and drive!! Eventually it will hit too close and then he will change his tune. Heh. Good post.

and closer to total Government control on the continuum between Government control and anarchy. Obama knows this and it has been his plan from day one. America with Narcissist King Obama at the helm won't even resemble the country we have known and loved. God help us stop him before it's too late.
Good work, Saltwater.

Part of the problem is "fascist" has overused and misused to the point where people don't really know what it means.
Fascism was multi-faceted, but now-days people only think of the Hitler ethnic purity version - and all of its ugly policies.
I believe Obama is striving for more of a Mussolini/Franco style of "benign" beneficence.

Saw pbho and his hissy fit re Chrysler the other day, Saltwater. How dare anyone say No to him! Bad investors! Wicked speculators! What does that say about what he is? How does he get away with it all? Because he can, at least for now.
pbho`s dismissal of Fox News because he`s "not popular there" and his derision of the TEA Party participants are only harbingers of what he has in store for us bitter clingers and his adoring minions. Beyond his grandiose plans of nationalizing the banks, auto industry and forcing Chrysler/Fiat(!) to make "green cars", his despicable plans include the control of electricity grids, internet access and to ban talk radio. Roger Ailes is no doubt making contingency plans for Fox News to broadcast off shore. The only thing missing is Rod Serling, to make sense of it all! Excellent essay, Saltwater!

Nice piece, brother.
Looks like Barry needs a copy of Friedman's "Capitalism and Freedom" upside his head.
Which leads me to my next observation. Either he hasn't read it, which makes him ignorant and unqualified in the area of economics...or he has, and he has deliberately chosen the opposite path, which makes him evil, criminal, and...a fascist.
I, like you, ultimately believe the latter.

Economic fascism. That's how I see this also. With Obama firing a CEO of a private corporation, throwing money left and right, who's to say which business the government will regulate next?

“Washington DC 2009 is starting to look a lot like Rome 1922.”
Can also read:
“Washington DC 2009 is starting to look a lot like Rome 2009.”
Richmond’s quote could easily apply to Silvio Berlusconi. As THE richest man in Italy, he is the second longest running Prime Minister. There is no dividing line between corporate, political, and criminal power. They’re all intertwined into a complex set of official and unwritten rules and regulations, selectively enforced by self-regulating political/corporate bosses and syndicates, for the sole purpose of increasing and retaining power.
For better or worse, Berlusconi has succeeded in consolidating the fractured multi-party Italian political system that normally paralyzes the country. He recently proposed and passed a law ending PM term limits.
Living in Italy doesn’t make me an expert in Italian politics, but after close to ten years here, I have a fair idea of how things work at the local and state levels. And I can assure you that your comments are more correct than you could ever imagine.
Let’s not get hung-up on terms. Whatever you call it, we are in fact moving away from the founding principles that made us great.

Yes, the impertinence of those eeeevviiiiiiiilllll investors trying to salvage as much as possible for those 401k and retirement accounts. Screw all those senior citizens living off the proceeds from those accounts - that's what their Social Security stipend is for.
Rod Serling would have taken a pass on trying to make sense of this --- Too far-fetched for even the Twilight Zone.

I liked the Benito nomenclature since I have used it on other blogs and people go.....hmmmm, what does it mean? The lack of historical understanding in this nation is one reason that the voters keep going with the socialist pacifists not understanding that it will defeat their own best self interest. Drop by my new one. BTW, when popularity in a democracy is used well, one doesn't need to use the military or SS get one's way. Demagogues have been on the scene ala Huey Long, Bob LaFollete but they usually go by the wayside. Obama according to the NYtimes , is reveling in his power. That is the point.

Third option: Barry has read Friedman... didn't understand - which makes him ignorant and unqualified in the area of economics... and guided by his ignorance deliberately chose the opposite path - which still makes him evil, criminal, and...a fascist.
I didn't see it when I first wrote this - but them new Chrysler/Fiat is self-described. It can be abbreviated in military parlance as "Charlie Foxtrot".

What's next? He has already placed our energy infrastructure high on the target list. He plans on redesigning the power grids to support "green" energy. Also an opportune time to cut out those damnable coal and gas power plants. With no hookup to the "improved" grid, they will simply die off.

Thank you for your valuable input. Your up close and person viewpoint adds dimension I cannot from where I now sit in the Arizona desert. I did get a feel for how some of these things operated while assigned to Naval Station Rota, Spain. The wife and I lived "on the economy" and stayed away from base as much as possible.
We developed friendships with some of the locals, and it was a real eye-opener when they felt comfortable enough to discuss some of their feelings about local and national government. They were more openly critical about local leaders that Generalissimo Franco to be sure. However, every once in a while they did let slip - and then quickly look around to be sure La Guardia wasn't coming their way.

Thanks for visiting the Crow's Nest. I'll head your way next.
Good point about demagogues, they usually end up stepping on their own after a while and get the boot. Your comment does hold promise of eventual relief. Obama IS reveling in his power, and Americans have a history turning on those who are full of themselves. The more he assumes the role of "Captain Invincible" the more likely people will back a perceived underdog just to put him in his place.

I have even seen some photos of O'Vomit striking a "Mussolina" pose. (I believe Sgt Relic posted some of them; but I could be mistaken.)
O'Vomit's policies are the dead give away. As he proceeds down the path of "nationalization" of the auto industry and banks, he is following in Il Duce's foot steps.
His problem is that the American people are not like the Italians of the 1920's.

Gray Ghost stole a bit of my thunder. The American People, or at least a significant fraction of us, if not a majority, are not going to sit idly by while His Royal Barackness throws the country under the bus. If he's thinking he's going to have an easy time of it, he's thinking wrong. He's in for the fight of his life, and I wouldn't put a nickel down on his chances of actually succeeding.
