Sentencing Laws

I believe we're becoming less constrained to pursue and prosecute child sexual predators.

Newspapers carry stories of such matters, whereas many years ago they did not. Victims these days are more likely to talk, too, than they were years ago.

However, sentencing -- consistent sentencing -- is something that is decades behind the times. It is my firm opinion that a pedophile is a pedophile is a pedophile, etc., etc. No amount of counseling will eradicate it. The only "cure" for pedophilia is to get the kennel mate caged for life. When he (or she) dies, then, and only then, is society safe. Even with a life imprisonment sentence, there is always the possibility of either escape or parole.

Parole should not be an option. "One strike and you're out" should be the law for pedophiles. Then the justice system wouldn't need to spend its time, effort and money trying to keep up with them. All they'd need is a prison to put them in.

This law needs to be federal, not state. Only then can there be consistency.

With more time, I could tell you how I really feel.

Sounds like you're on the same page.

I write letters to the editor; I write letters to our lawmakers, both state and federal. Never let anyone forget that this is a pox on our society.
