My draft number was 7, in 1970. On New Year's day they put all 365 birthdates into the basket and started the lottery. I turned 18 in July and I joined the USAF. I went to DaNang for 11 months and then to Norton. When I got back, I had no friends anymore. No one wanted to be with a soldier, a baby killer.

Well, my friends who had gone with the Army were still friends, but we didn't talk as much as before. My best buddy Mike had that 50 yard stare for a couple of years.

Before I graduated, I use to hear the official score every night.
