Does Anyone on This Blog Actually LIKE John McCain?

Yes, I like McCain!

I actually like McCain and supported him in 2000 when he ran against GWB. I'm sorry he didn't win, because I don't think we would be in the mess we are in today as a country if he had been president.
During this primary cycle, I supported Huckabee; he won my heart as a non-Washington outsider who could bring real change for our country.
I will support McCain for President as long as he continues his maverick demeanor and straight-talk. We need his experience, genuine love of country, and candor. I just hope he will not change by bowing down to big business and the Republican establishment to get elected. If he does he will not win, because Americans are ready for a CHANGE and do not want the status quo.

No.

Hey hsmith, are you a politician too? That's a lot of platitudes.

okay, i'm going to...

start posting mccain links on here as i find them. here are the first two. this one is his campaign site.

http://www.johnmccain.com

and then, there's this one i was just reading on his much-discussed temper.

Not a McCain fan

And as of now, will not support him.

Immigration - wrong.
Taxes - wrong.
Judges - wrong.
Siding with democrats - wrong
"Torture" - wrong
Gitmo - wrong
Global warming - wrong

I know he has voted for conservative judges, but he hasn't done much to actively support them.

I know he hasn't voted to raise taxes, but he hasn't done anything to get rid of them. And just what exactly does he think a "cap and trade" system on carbon is anyway?

I know he has recently said he would "enforce the border" , but there is nothing in his record to back that up.

I know what McCains "lifetime" score is, but what is his score over the last few years?

A man who has to constantly SAY he is a conservative can't point to much to SHOW he is a conservative.

Conservatism is more than an (R) next to the name...

okay, this blog was posted hours ago

and we still have only one person who has actually said he likes mccain...

Two Questions

Liking him, I dislike him a lot. He is not a likable person. I dont like the things that he says and apparently believes.
Is he a good candidate? On the face of it, he's the worst candidate ever. But he got the nomination by outfoxing his opponents; they never saw him coming until it was too late. He's so easy to underestimate that that might be a mistake.
I'll still bet 10-1 that he loses.

okay, skep (and sarge, if you see this)

now, this is a serious question, okay? and absolutely meant in NO way to antagonize (seriously). i mean, he seems harmless enough. i don't really mind his stand on amnesty, although i want the FENCE this time w/amnesty. this amnesty-go-round thing is more like a travesty than an amnesty. he is very left-leaning for a so-called conservative. and i'm concerned specifically about the justices he'd come up with (if reagan picked a sandra day o'connor, my goodness, what can we expect here)? it's a worry, but i still see no comparison to hillbama. and oddly enough, his leftiness makes him a real asset this year in potentially slaying the hillbama. any thoughts on this? because i'm not meaning to offend, and i'm quite serious. it comes as a worry to me that i'm offending without trying, and it may come naturally...

McWho?

Do you ever wonder, "How did this guy get the nomination?" I do. It is as if the division between Huck, Thompson, Romney, Rudy, and McCain was so evenly split, that we all lost. The non-activist Republicans looked at McCain and said, "Well, it's his turn." Sad.

beltway girl

I'm sorry I can't help out balancing the comments. I have a different opinion on amnesty since I see it as a failure of our legal system (you know, the whole America concept, a nation of laws) and the single most important principle of any nation, sovereignty.

When McCain lead the fight for this I figured he was done and took my eye off him. laughtech and skep say it very well. We have a left leaning candidate who is not even looking for conservative support. IMO, he will get some support from those who will be willing to accept his liberal policies to prevent a democrat from entering the WH.

But just as you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube, McCain's victory will be taken by him as validation and a mandate to move left. It is the "Kobayashi Maru" scenario without Capt. Kirk at the helm. I will do my part to insure that my guy gets returned to congress since he is a solid conservative. I am working on senate campaign to try and head-off democrat Mark Warner but with Virginia turning blue that may not happen. At this point I consider the presidential race to be wash.

Catmman hit the high notes with which I fully agree. I would rather see congressional and senatorial republicans fighting a democrat president than laying down for a liberal republican. Gridlock is our best hope.

sarge--

you know, that's absolutely true, mccain is being swallowed like an aspirin. he wasn't my first choice; i much preferred huckabee or thompson, and it's like that with a lot of people, i think. and i also ignored him. i figured he was gone, after a time. this is the reason i got to know more about every candidate in this race than i do about john mccain. as of now, i still know more about the fair tax than john mccain (although, to my credit, i know a lot about the fair tax)... thank you, especially, for this comment. i've gotten an idea of how impassioned you are about this, and i don't want you to feel like i'm in some way trying to sell him because in actuality, i'm not. every positive point he has shines, though, because he is not the far left, which is the only other choice available. algore would be MY personal nightmare, and the idea of him getting this nomination gives me the creeps. listening to rush limbaugh now, and ironically, he's saying almost exactly what you just said. i would still far prefer a mccain to either hillary or obama; the idea of such a scenario is a powerful motivator.

laughtech

yes, i always wonder. he's either very lucky or incredibly shrewd, maybe a little bit of both (well,he's definitely very lucky either way). and absolutely, we all looked like a desperate bridal party, fighting over who caught the bouquet until it ended up on the ground... he might end up being a phenomenal president, provided he doesn't sell out and completely alienate the conservatives, and provided he gets in at all. obama will probably get the dem nod, and mccain should have a good chance.

2 parts to the question

a) No I don't really like him.
b) He is a very good candidate.

On amnesty, he's more in bed with the mezzican government than W. He's not a solid tax cutter. He loves to not only cooperate with the left, but to COLLABORATE with them. He's an opponent of the Constitution, as evidenced by McCain-Feingold.

The only issues that he's solid on are earmark reform and foreign policy/use of the military/national defense (with the exceptions of waterboarding, Gitmo, and the fact that terrorists and illegal combattants have NO rights under Geneva).

That being said, the alternative at this time is much worse.
