You asked what can we do about CAIR.
Well the P.C. crowd will wind up killing us all
Since TH is finally working [now] I can leave comments
God forbid any of us should say the wrong thing, now it seems to include, any display of God or religion in a public place or our "friends" in the ACLU will be all over with the fake "wall of separation"
The Christian religion can be attacked at will and no [not many] public officials seem to care but attack the so called "religion of peace" and they're all over you. As you can see by some of my posts when someone says they want to kill you believe them, [Muslims].
The nations of old Europe are shrinking in population, Muslims are migrating into Europe, and in years to come they will be enough to call the shots.

What can we do
Sheila, we can fight among ourselves over the ideas of our candidates and weed out those whom we dislike. Then, on election day, we all can compromise and vote to keep the Democrats out of power. 2006 must not be repeated.

Excellent analysis:
I heard the interview with Delay also. You captured and expanded on his points beautifully.
It's amazing that Tom Delay is still fighting for our cause in spite of what the Dems (and some Repubs) did to him! He is one of the "Mr. Smith's who went to Washington." (A plug for my blog, sorry.)
If '06 is repeated, then it's curtains for our conservative causes for a long time, maybe permanently.

Why is this so hard to understand? I hope we get it in 08...
Glad Tom isn't giving up, even under the continued persecution. This could happen to any conservative who goes to Washington...it is scary.
There could be a day when good men and women no longer want to risk their reputation to be a "Mr. or Mrs Smith"...

I've been getting the feeling that some on the Right have become whinners instead of doers...we need to change that!
If we give up and think that sitting out elections will get us anywhere, we will lose every time!
I am really sad that after seeing the sacrifices made by the brave Iraqi voters, who risked their lives for freedom to get to the polls, we would have those here in the US, who have no obstacles but those imposed on themselves, who don't bother to use their gift of freedom, and vote!

Heard that interview also. I didn't feel like Tom has a firm grasp on whats really wrong. He, like so many others, continues to point to the Dem's and talk about their wicked ways. Waste of time. Common knowledge. Also, he talked about strarting at this grass roots level and forming all of these little org's etc. I simply do not believe there's time for that. If we do not get our dysfunctional GOP house in order asap, we can write off 08, I'm afraid. The fact is, Karl Roves grand scheme has been a total failure. It worked for awhile but fizzled. It seems that big name conservative commentators (like Rush) are timid and reluctant about criticizing the inept GOP hierarchy. But thats exactly what is needed at this time. They just want to continually hammer on the Dem's because they think thats fun. Now is not the time for fun but serious self analysis/critique. DD

If we had stayed united and voted for a GOP majority, we could be working from strength... but we had to join the Left in the attack.
The last election caught everyone by surprise, because the Reagan Democrats (conservative dems) went back to the Left when our side piled on. Then we had the defectors that didn't vote.
It takes time and a super majority to get our agenda passed, and those who got impatient jumped the gun. Now it's going to be harder to gain back what we've lost, and time is marching on.
With the constant negative barrage from the Left, and the Right joinning in, we don't have a chance.
If we lose it will be the fault of the impatient voters who didn't apreciate the gains we were making, and couldn't work with the party to continue on that path. It'a a real shame, and we can't blame Rove. WE are the ones who didn't do our job. Wish I could agree with you!:)

I think praising the GOP for it's accomplishments and getting involved to change the things we don't like is the best approach. Sitting out elections just isn't our style. We aren't quitters.
Michael Medved had some interesting points on his show, talking about how much more is being done on the borders since Bush has been in office.
We seem to be focused on the negatives and not the positive accomplishments of this administration. But now with the dems in control, we will really not get anything done. We better get our act together by 08, or you can say goodbye to any progress for our cause!

We need introspection, we need to draft or convice a good candidate to come forward (Fred Thompson? Newt?), and we need to get a message and a plan that resonates with the majority of Americans. Then we will take back the WH, and not until. Whining about the corrupt dems won't do the trick. We need to get involved NOW, before the MSM crowns one of the current "front runners"; before we even get a chance to put forward an acceptable candidate.

Thanks for taking time to read and to respond. I agree -- school choice is a major step forward. Vouchers, performance-based pay, no unions, and ending the current credentialing process. Qualified teachers should have a four-year degree from an accredited college, a background check, and that’s it. It is up to management to hire and train qualified teachers. Credentials are a sham. I hope to here from you in the future.

Let's say we have a less than perfect nominee, who is conservative on some issues...what will you do? Just curious, since we are having this discussion among conservatives.
Bush isn't running again, and whatever mistakes we think he made shouldn't be projected onto the R party in general, am I wrong? And what do we do with those elected in states that won't vote conservative, but will vote for a moderate, like McCain again and again?
Since the Republican party isn't the Conservative party, what do we do with those who don't agree with conservatism 100% of the time? Do we push them over to the dem party?
Don't get me wrong, I'm as conservative as they come, but the reality is we may not have everything we want, so in your opinion, as a fellow conservative what will you do, if that is the case?
And what are your thoughts on Thompson's chances?

WE DO need to stick together better .I think we have made mistakes since the Repubs took over in 1994. But I think our down fall started 4 years ago when all the leaders including the president supported Sen Spector over the true conservative in Pat Toomey.
When asked about it Sen Santorum said " 55" meaning control of the senate since we had 55 at the time but now Mr Santorum is gone and I just saw that Sen SPector is going to run again. So if we don't support the real conservatives on principle then we will go down to defeat.
BTW Thanks for commenting on my " New Addition " post. I just saw it ..been busy. To answer your ????. Paula would be the female name for the Bible name Paul and Marie would be after my cousin Mary who has been my best friend for my 48 years.

Thanks for checking back, and answering my ???
Also, your comments about supporting the conservatives that run, is a great point. The party leaders don't always make the decision we would like on who they back...and that is frustrating. Sometimes they choose "most likely to win" over true conservatives, and I admitt I do get irritated when that happens. It obviously backfired in 06! But look at where we are now...let's hope we get behind some strong conservatives, and we can get all our voters behind them!
Good to hear from you, thanks for those thoughts, and the great quotes!

If we could get all conservatives to vote for our guys even if we don't always get perfection, we would probably be in a better position right now to continue working on our agenda...there is a little teeny disagreement among us on that regard...in case you hadn't noticed...:)JDW made a good point about that in the above post.
08 will be a critical election, and hope we can all get together, but...I don't think I'll hold my breath...:)

He also has national recongintion unlike some of the other caniddates that I think would be good like Hunter/Tancrdeo. who have been ignored by the MSM. Unlike Newt who has been villified by the MSM which sadly to many uneducated people take soundbites from the DNC as truth. Excellent post Shelia

Like another teacher of old
I will propose a parable to clarify the situation.
If the other side demands to smash you in the head with a hammer six times, how do you negotiate? Is it really a success to reduce the number of acceptable blows to three? Or is the demand simply not acceptable at all and beyond compromise?
Our desire to compromise is why we keep getting hit in the head. We trumpet our success at reducing the number of blows sustained, all the while nursing a crushed skull for our efforts. Maybe we should uphold our principles and reject being hit in the head even one time.
The Dems fillibustered SCOTUS nominees; we should have ruled against them and codified what had always been the process, not compromised with the lame Gang of 14. You don't think the dems will do exactly that once Obama is crowned and their nominee from the ACLU is in the same position?
Why did we let Sandy Berger off the hook for committing a felony? Did we get a break with Libby once they manufactured a felony for him in return? NO!
There is no benefit to compromising with people that never return the goodwill. There can be no compromise on your fundamental principles, or you simply wind up with no principles at all. If you won't fight for what you believe in, you may as well believe in anything convenient.
Stop by the Heartland for a new post in this vein.

I'm with you on standing by our principles. My concern is, we're living in a imperfect world, and that world will become much worse with those who hate America and our national sovereingty, in complete control of our government.
The way to negotiate for our principles is from strength. Think about it. There were some issues, as you mentioned we weren't happy with, but the issues of major importance such as no Kyoto,no global warming laws crammed down our throats, no cut and run from the WOT etc, were still being held strong by our side.
I'm afraid the Left is winning the battle of the minds because we are caving and piling on.
We will be in a really bad place if we have the yellow party in control, in this time of national danger from a terrible attack.

I feel the same way...my conscience wouldn't let me throw the country to the lions...if we can get back majorities in both houses, and keep the WH, we can certainly make more gains as we were doing before the election. Right now the loons are really showing us who they are when they are in power, and it's not a pretty picture.
BTW, I agree with what you said on Brian's I was going to say that there.
We have to weigh our objectives. If we want to let this country go to the dogs, we let the Left win. If we believe we can make headway on most issues, (though not all) we must stay with the GOP.

http://streetlevel.townhall.com/g/556b5bad-4bca-41cc-9417-1ab8a4b36205
I'd vote for the worst Repub before I'd vote for a seditious, lefy Dem.
Problem is most voters aren't like you or I in that respect. I believe the analysts inside the GOP hierarchy are inept and have strayed way way way off course. Yes, I'm talking The Pres, Mr. K. Rove and crew. They have failed to properly interpret the average Middle American voter. This is huge voting block. These are the Reagan Democrats, Independents, disaffected Union members, small biz owners, and the list goes on. They are somewhat fickle bunch. Not trying to insult them. I simply recognize this about them. If these folks can't feel enthusiastic about a candidate or feel betrayed by them they'll simply stay at home or vote for some kook 3rd party candidate like they did here in TX on 11/7.
Now we can whine and moan about that or we, who call ourselves Republicans, can plan/implement an effective strategy.
A winning strategy. Something the GOP has not had for a long time. Even though they have been able to "squeak" through the last few times up until the bloodbath of 11/7.
But we need to draw these wayward voters back to the GOP. Not drive them away like the present regime. Its not that difficult. But if we think its going to happen w/the "Big 3" or a Brownback, well we are deluding ourselves. DD
