You are, by far,

the MOST enjoyable to read.

Scottie, My Man, Your writing is just magnificent.

Jimmy

Thank you my friend for the very kind words.

BTW, it made the Missus cry when she read it.

That was lovely.

I've seen that face, too. It's overwhelming.

Scottie

I experienced the same with my kids and my grandkids and am looking forward to the great grandkids,if the old man can hang on long enough(my oldest granddaughter is 8 now so who knows).Always enjoy your writting.God bless....

Shining City

It is a profound experience, no doubt about it.

USA Eagle

It is humbling when I touch people with my writing, and I appreciate your kind words. Hang in there Grandpa, there's more to come for both of us, I hope.

Amen and amen!

We all need perspectives like that. Relish every minute with your charges from heaven. All too soon, you'll be wondering how it is they've grown up so fast and where the time has gone.

Interface

I agree; your point is one of many absolute truths in life. They're babies one minute, and borrowing the car keys the next.

As others have said...

Thanks for your post. It reminds me of my daughter's face (at age 4) when she would blow a dandilion's (sp?) seeds, scattering them in all directions.

Every now and then we need to be reminded of those moments when we can see the "Hand of the Father".

Grey Ghost

I'm reminded of the line in "Roots" where the father holds his newborn son to the heavens and procliams "Behold the one thing greater than yourself!" God truly does live most visibly in the innocence of our children.

Thank you for stopping by.

Thank you, Scottie

You took me back to a place that I haven't visited for a while. Whenever I would awaken in the middle of the night I would be drawn to the baby's room, 39 year old first time fathers are not towers of confidence, having already seen too much.

The sight of his innocent face, relaxed in sleep, is an image that will remain with me forever.

But, as you so correctly observe, it is all to soon over and now as I prepare to see him graduated from college in May, confident and ready to take his place in the world, I start to hope that maybe I will have a chance for a reprise of those moments.

Scottie

That was beautifully written Scottie...I could visualize everything you described almost as if I were there!

What a precious experience to be treasured...a blessing from God for sure.

And...I love the title.

Sheila

Thank you, dear. Sometimes the words just flow and I get a result like this.

How we know God

Because we can "see" Him in moments like you described. Poignant writing. Well done, sir.

Scarlet Pimpernel

I have no other explanation for it. I cannot accept that something so precious, so perfect, is the result of meaningless random chance. It just isn't possible.

Sarge

Grandchildren give us a second chance to appreciate those moments all over again. And it's even better with grandkids, because you know what to look for. With age come wisdom.

Sarge

As a newcomer to the Heartland, you should check out my article "Reflections on Manliness" on the featured articles list. I think you'll find it right up your alley.

And thanks for stopping by and commenting. Don't be a stranger.

Scottie

Nice Read ..I have been blessed with 7 of those precious wonders

Abigail Adams

What is it that affectionate parents require of their Children; for all their care, anxiety, and toil on their accounts? Only that they would be wise and virtuous, Benevolent and kind.

Scottie tell your friend to stop by for my new post

Just beautiful Scottie

Your story so reminded me of when I used to feed my grand daughter, Anna. She would latch onto my face with her beautiful blue eyes with the look of love and I would thank God for this wonderful creature He had created.

I never thought I could love someone as much as my son when he did the same thing. But, I found the wonder and love to be even more so with her.

I spent so much time with her when she was a baby we have a great bond. To this day, she will sit on my lap, (she's 5 now) and stare into my face with that same love she did as a baby. We then hug one another so tightly and share our love for one another, it's so special. My son calls it the Anna and Grandma love fest.

Thanks for such a beautiful story.

btw, I have an article up at my place Decay Within.

JDW

Thank you for the apt quote, and for stopping by. I'll be over shortly.

Pepermint

I pity anyone that can't see God in the face of an innocent child. Be over after I visit JDW's place.

What a beautiful story

Scottie. I turned to mush too, just like the missus. It made me look to the right of my computer where there is a picture of my now 17 yr. old son when he was about 6 wks old. I keep it out and apart from the rest of the baby pictures to remind me of the very essence of your love letter to your grandson. You should save it for him for when he is older. I'm sure he will love it like the rest of us did.

Always good to see a new face here in the Heartland. I'm touched that so many people have responded so kindly to this particular post, and thank you for the kind words. Do check back often, you are most welcome here.

Scottie

Yesterdday I was with a friend and her daughter who just had a baby, and I had the same awed feeling holding the sweet little bundle...those chubby cheeks, and cute pug nose...there's nothing more precious.

Seems you really hit a chord here, Scottie.

Btw, thanks for stopping by my place. It's always good to hear from you!

Sheila

I make it to your place at least twice a week, and if I'm not too rushed to read the posts others have left there, I try to add to them.

And thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate the response I've received with this post.

Beautiful

I needed to read this. I remember the times when they would settle so beautifully in my arms, but it is easy to forget in my hustle and bustle life, and with them growing into ever more active boys. They are but two and a hlaf and seventeen months, but it seems like years ago and yesterday at the same time.

While I am just beginning this journey, your piece is a wonderful reminder to enjoy each moment, because behind each moment is a wonderful, loving God who provides such wonderful and loving children.

Thank you.

Virginia Daddy

God bless you sir, and be grateful for your boys. If I've given you pause to appreciate them, I've accomplished as much as I could. If I've done more than that, then we both are blessed. Thanks for stopping by.
