In either case, I agree. It doesn't matter if we are loved, that does us no good. The world loves Nepal, won't help them if China chooses to roll through. For that matter, how much good are all the "I HEART Tibet" bumper stickers doing for the people who reside there?

But being feared? Israel exists entirely because the surrounding states fear they would lose any military exchange, not to mention the fear that Israel has nukes. THAT works.

Glad someone agrees with me.
