Your Soul

No Peace

"But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked." Isa 57:20-21

"...Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations. I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them: because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not." Isa 66:3-4

"...so that they are without excuse: Because that when they knew God, they glorified him not as God...but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools...Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves; Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen...And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convienent..." Romans 1:20-28

I Peter 4:11

Chiefest of Sinners -- what purpose?

What is the purpose of the "comment" that you left? All that I see is a series of biblical passages condemning homosexuality. I am sick and tired of religious crackpots using their religion as a shield to enable them to heap abuse on gay men and lesbians. I am not at all a religious person, and it is precisely because of the rubbish that the religious right spews with respect to gay people that I will never set foot in a Christian church again.

Your religious beliefs are of no importance to me. What is of importance to me is that I be permitted to live my life on equal terms with heterosexual Americans. This means that I should not be denied the right to marry (a right so basic that most heterosexuals don't even think about it), and that I should not be excluded from serving in the armed forces of this nation on equal terms with heterosexuals, merely because of my sexual orientation. You are free to believe whatever you wish to believe about gay people and about what will happen to us after death -- but here, in this lifetime, we are guaranteed equal justice under law by no less a body than the US Supreme Court (see Lawrence v. Texas, 539 U.S. 558 (2003), striking down laws prohibiting gay adults from having consensual gay sex in private settings, and overturning a monstrous prior decision (Bowers v. Hardwick, 478 U.S. 186 (1986)) that reached the opposite result). Several state supreme courts have held that gay Americans are entitled to the substantive benefits of marriage at the state level (e.g., New Jersey) and one state supreme court has held that gay Americans are entitled to all of the benefits of marriage at the state level (both substantive and nominal).

Citing a string of biblical ravings does nothing to advance this discussion.
