Diabetes/Fasting -A personal experience

Diabetes and Fasting - A personal experience and a word of caution....

My doctor called me for years “near diabetic” and at 5"9' and 220 pounds, he scolded me into losing weight. I took a similar approach to yours with an aggressive diet and exercise regimen, stopped drinking that “bad” coffee. In 30 days, I was 190 pounds; in 60 days I was 165 pounds. I concluded that was enough. My wife told me I looked “sickly”.

Then my world fell apart. I began to have an unquenchable thirst, I had to change my contact lens prescription twice in 90 days, I began multiple night time urination visits, I was tired (as I expected from the diminished food and increased exercise) and I was mortified by ED. Now, you may recognize all of these as classic symptoms of Diabetes.

And so did I….

Back to the doctor who recommended insulin shots as I had “screwed up my chemistry” and he was right I was a full blown diabetice like he said I would be. My wife went to the pharmacy, picked up my prescription and a booklet on “living with diabetes”. Six days into my shots, I registered a blood sugar of 65…my knees buckled and I generally felt awful. As I lay on my “Lazy boy” reading the diabetes booklet, I ran across an article entitled “Six cups of coffee a day, keeps your diabetes away”. I went back to my wonderful and missed daily routine of coffee and began a detailed search on the internet on the subject. I found a large amount of good information on my problem. I have since related this to others where coffee was of no help to them.

Bottom line….I am at about 178 pounds and after six months of trying to get my chemistry straight back then( with no doctors assistance, please), I am near normal again (and three years later). Do be cautious; be not as rapid as I in this weight loss endeavor, a broader range of vitamins, keep with an exercise program….and no meds required….thank you.

Best of luck...we will be looking for your updates. Your friend in battle...

GUNS

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOURS. STAY SAFE.

Diet

Guns,

Unless your 300 lbs and 4 ft tall I think you need to rethink the fasting. Larry is right. There are great info sites to look at and a lot of info. http://www.everydayhealth.com and WebMd.com. Like he said you crash. Diabetes is nothing fo fool with. I HAD a friend that was only 33 y/o in DC that was mis-diagnosed and it didn't come out well. Does you're doctor agree with this? When you crash diet like that it really messes with you whole system. The reason you feel so good now is that your on a high. The 8 asprin is going to thin out you blood a lot and allergy meds should be checked out because the two don't always mix. Not taking your Diabetes meds cold turkey is not good either. I wish you all the best with loosing weight. Lord knows we all need to but you really need to make sure that it's with you doc's help. Well I've had my say. Keep us informed.

Errors

Guns,

I just put some info on Gunny's site about the errors and problems we have been having with the system. Check it out. We need a script person to tell us which way to go.
