No Religious Test Shall Ever Be Required

Not quite true

"Mormons do not pay their leaders and, doctrine aside; evangelical leaders have problems with that. Too, the rapid growth and retention rates of the Mormon Church, coupled with its superlative welfare system have only added grief to the evangelical leadership." First, Mormon leader do receive compensation, albeit not a lot. But they do. This is not true to say they are not paid. Second, growth and retention rates are overblown.

As to Mormonism being subjected to scrutiny, I think you are confusing a couple of things. First, you are correct to say that our constitution allows for all faiths to be elected. Second, it does not guarantee each faith to be free from scrutiny by the electorate.

Finally, if Romney is the nominee, I may well support him. He's not my first choice (not because of his faith), but I could very well support him. I think most would, as well.

Misunderstanding of the Constitution.

That text prohibits the government from putting a religious qualifier on any canidate, which I whole-heartedly agree with.

However, as individuals, we are free to put any qualifiers on any office or canidate we choose. And recommend those qualifiers to anyone we choose. Not impose them, but promote them.

Welcome to America, where we are still free, for the moment, anyway.
