I wasn't able to see the speech, but I just read it. You are 100% right. Bush did us proud. The best line: "It can be tempting to think that America can put aside the burdens of freedom. Yet times of testing reveal the character of a Nation." The burdens of freedom. What a beautiful phrase.

You summed it up beautifully. The contrast is amazing. The Dems have no vision. Their desire for this to be Bush's Vietnam is too powerful.

And I also love the quote that Scatbug referred to. Too deep for the Dems.

It's a sad statement when the world has to watch the Left making fools of themselves...while the President tries to unite the country around the cause of freedom and safety...

Not to be pessimistic, but this is the first formal address to the Nation I think that didn't end in "May God bless America." Nor have I seen the omission mentioned anywhere else, yet.

I did wonder about that as well...he mentioned the "creator of freedom", or something like that, I'll have to look it up... he did mention God in that way, but not "God bless America"...

"We go forward with trust that the Author of Liberty will guide us through these trying hours"...so he did mention God guiding us in that way.

I am glad we are increasing troops there but I am not convinced that its going to work. There is still no real indication taht we are goign to take on the militias and the vague tepid comments about Iran and Syria didn't instill me with confidence that we are going to be serious about dealing with their interference. I just have a feeling this whole thing is window dressing. A whig and lipstick for a pig is still a pig.

A little sckeptical are ya...well we will see. I think he means business, and we're going to see success eventually. It's not your usual war...this is a different kind of battle.

I think this is a battle we will be fighting, in one form or another, for the rest fo our lives...we will need patience and perserverance to endure. Right now we have a President who actually wants to defeat these murdering terrorists. What happens if we get a cut and runner in the White House in 08?...Only God knows.

...about 1400 years already, so I entirely agree with you Sheila- we will be fighting it for a long time to come.

Sometimes I wonder if there just has to be an opposing ideology out there- maybe it is human nature and we will always face a belief system which appeals to those who hate/envy us. History certainly argues in that direction- perhaps there will never be an "end of history".

I too noticed, and was disappointed by Bush's lack of his usual "God Bless America"- I am sure it was omitted for a reason, and it saddens me to think he would kowtow to secularists Dems or Muslims, yet that is how it appears.

It's an age old battle that has just caught up to present time...

"The Author of Liberty will guide us through" was Bush's reference to God. I think he was purposely speaking in terms that could not inspire the "crusades" accusation which the enemy has chosen to use as a charge against the war on terror...

Israel has been fighting this ideology. Think of where they would be if they had given up after 4 years.

This morning on Fox News, Major Gen. Barton Moore said it all: "It we don't get this done, we'll have to fight them somewhere else."

Let's support Bush - he's all we've got right now. If conservatives bail, then it's over.

You are so right. This is a critical time in our history. It's survive or give up, and the giving up will bring devastating results. We must have the courage to go on, and win. Our sordiers know why we are there, and believe in the cause. We must give them our full support. We really have no choice but to unite behind our President now.

And if you are correct in your observation, we are surely in trouble. You do not defeat an enemy by being concerned by what they may blame you for doing to defeat them.

It WAS different, and I don't know why Bush chose to phrase it the way he did...it is true we must not in any way change our reference to our God to appease anyone, and I don't think that was his purpose, but a good question...

Actually, the loss was here at home with public opinion, and the dems, with the MSM's help are attempting to do a repeat. It's contemptuous!

Jimmy Carter is absolutely right. The Liberals have never gotten over Vietnam, which was started by a Democrat, Johnson.

Democrats want to recreate their "win" in Vietnam.

Bush laid it out in his speech. The Democrats were attacking the speech before he even gave it.

This site is a hoot and a holler! A collection of Twiggies whistling past the Shrub's graveyard of a legacy. That national disaster of a man and his mis-administation has lead us into a strategic military blunder of epic magnitude. Al-Qaeda in its dreams could not have done more harm to our esteemed military nor crippled our national security.

Few will ever have the legacy that Bush has. He brought us back from an umprecendented attack on our soil that could have resulted in a national disaster for many years. The Bush haters see no further than their own power.

No one has done more for Al Qaeda than the Democrats and the MSM. If we lose in Iraq, the Dems will have another loss to add to Vietnam. I'm sure they will be very proud of that.

Tonight I was watching Hannity's America on Fox and he ran the cut out part of the film ABC put on last year about 9/11 where it exposed Clinton's failures to get bin laden 13 times.
Anyway, since that was brought up into my memory again,(I did watch the movie last year), I found myself feeling so angry about the left again.

Just think of all those times Clinton had bin laden in his sight to blow him away and he didn't. One time he begged the saudis to take bin laden because Clinton said he had nothing on him. Nothing on him?
Is that not the worst blunder ever?

To make my point, the left is always screaming how Bush hasn't gotten bin laden,that Bush ran off into Iraq and didn't finish the job to get the big cheese. But, the left will worship at the altar of Jughead until death, even though JugH
could have gotten bin laden years ago.

Who did more to put this country in danger? Clinton or Bush? I blame Clinton because he did nothing while these terrorists were doing their evil deeds during his administration. And, I believe that whatever Sandy Berger destroyed when he burgled classified docs was to protect himself and Clinton from more damage surrounding their lack of doing anything with the terrorists.

While I don't agree with Bush's policy on immigration I stand behind him all the way in this global war we're in. The dems have demonstrated once again for all to see that they are poltroons. They and the media lost the war for us in VN and they are trying to do it again.
I don't understand these people,not for one minute.

What really gets me is these dems and those who support them seem to have no broad view on this war on Islamic fanatics. When I read what the loons on the left write here just on TH, it gives me shudders that they are so utterly blind.

Obviously there are many people who are incapable of looking past their noses. They cannot see the whole picture, but keep whining over Iraq as if it has nothing to do with the entire picture.

Exactly right on all counts. It amazes me that the Left simply will not look at the facts of what their beloved pres. has brought us to, and refuse to see that the bullseye is on them too.

Somehow they fail to see that the terrorists want to kill us all, and that Saddam was a part of the threat, due to his behavior, previous use of chemical weapons on his own people, and the Intel that said he had WMD.

I guess they'll never get it, and even if we get hit again, despite the fact that UBL was encouraged after Bubba's lack of action, they will blame Bush...
