Wher's MJF?
I still have not seen the ad aired here in St. Louis. Nor have I seen the Post Dispatch print an article about this controversy. (Rush criticized over a local issue and our paper doesn't cover it??) The only stem cell story I've seen in the past week was from Sunday, and it only referred to stem cell ads in a generic sense. I have the sense that this has backfired on McCaskill.

Yeah , but he is a Celebrity
You are absolutely right in all your criticisms of the Fox ad, but he is a CELEBRITY, and even better, an ILL CELEBRITY, which makes him unassailable and in the Liberal world you can't get a better spokesman. Unfortunately, there will be people who accept what he says blindly because he is on TV and in the movies. Sad, isn't it?

And another thing...
...."there will be people who accept what he says blindly because he is on TV and in the movies." Just like when he said he took too much medication. I think he made that up to discredit Mr. Limbaugh.

Clarification
Michael's ad was for the candidate - not for the Intiative --- which he says. He has another goal which is to get 2/3 of the votes next time they try to put a bill through and it will be veto-proof. That's why he talks about politics not just being local. Jim Talent doesn't support embryonic stem cell research which is what he is trying to get through. Fox did talk about Talent supporting adult stem cell research in his interview with Stephanoupoulos but that it isn't as promising as the EBC research.
Steele backs adult stem cell research. Cardin voted against the bill (which I believe was his bill) because, as often happens, the bill had changed into something completely different - including another tax cut for the super wealthy. In fact, Steele compared ESC research to the Holocaust while Cardin has been a strong supporter. Of course, Fox was going to support Cardin.
I think is not the point that he is a celebrity but that he is someone we all feel is familiar and he has this terrible disease so - instead of using a stranger, they are using a face we know. Would you prefer to see a stranger talking about it? I'm sure that could be done.
I don't see where talking about the effects of using the medication is discrediting Limbaugh.

One of
the Things I have pointed out to some folks is that the idea Fox presents that "woops I just overmedicated" is nonsense. Fox clearly knows his proper medication dosages and woudlnt even think of filming an episode of a TV series while exhibiting those symptoms. But we are to believe that oops he over medicated coincidentally while he filmed a couple of tv spots about parkinsons.
Sorry doesnt wash.

Dear Jillbryant:
I think you better listen to the ad and follow the controversy a bit closer than you obviously have followed it. Both the Missouri and the Maryland ads are misleading because they talk about "stem-cell" research - not, by the way, "embryonic stem-cell" research. In Missouri, the ad makes reference to the current ballot initiative - Amendment 2 - which is about cloning and not merely stem-cell research. The ad in Maryland says Steele does not back stem cell research, which he does. It says that the voters should back Cardin because he backs stem cell research - which he, in fact, voted against. The ad, and Mr. Fox, are in every way misleading - what do you not understand about this? Fox has admitted that he was not really familiar with the initiative in Missouri. I understand you want to back him because he is such a lovable guy and he is sick. But if the pro-stem-cell lobby really wants to make points with the public they ought to tell the truth and that goes for Fox as well.
Pertaining to your question: "Would you prefer to see a stranger talking about it?" I would actually prefer anyone talking about it as long as they tell me the truth. You may, or may not, have a worthy cause - but don't lie to me about it. The ends do not justify the means.
On your point of you not understanding "where talking about the effects of using the medication is discrediting Limbaugh;" all I can say is that if I could understand your sentence structure, I might be able to answer your question.

Remember Howard
Cosell. He asked political questions of Johnny Unitas and Joe Namath on different occasions and they both smoothly handed him his own head. If i remember right, Joe said Howard i throw footballs, why would anyone care about who i vote for? Wouldn't it be nice if all of the beautiful and famous were so minded?
