Too much salt ruins the savor of the dish

LUMPY STUFF IN THE MELTING POT

Recently in a complete two page-letter to my U.S. lawmakers giving them the benefit of my opinion about illegal aliens, I mentioned the melting pot.

"Melting pot" has been a good description of the America I know and love.

Yes, there was fear and distrust when Japanese people began immigrating here, particularly when, as a young child during the war, they were our averred enemies.

Yes, there was fear and distrust when Vietnamese people began immigrating here.

Yes, there was fear when one believed any "foreigners" were somehow usurping what was not theirs. It's somewhat akin to having uninvited guests simply make themselves at home in your house. There is an uneasy -- and justifiably so -- fear and resentment.

This is not easy to admit; nobody has a desire to admit to believing someone who is different has no place in this melting pot of ours.

However, I have accepted immigrants with an open mind and an open heart -- just as my country has. We are all the better for it.

In my letter to my lawmakers, I described how, when making a soup where there were unwanted lumps -- in other words, the lumps won't melt -- I simply toss them out. There is no place for lumpy stuff in my soup. If the ingredients don't blend as they should, out they go!

We can consider illegal aliens as lumpy stuff that won't melt in our melting pot. Nor do these lumps have a desire to melt into the melting pot. All the more reason to remove them from the mix.

Legal immigration? Of course. Immigrants who will contribute to American society rather than take from it and take from it until it's bled dry? Of course not. Contrary thinking is just that -- contrary, wrong-headed thinking.

An example is a reading of the Medicare Trustees' Report and its dire predictions for the future. As I have said many, many times before, my America will turn into a third-world nation in no time. Then where will our place be in the world? Food for thought.

Remember the lumpy soup.

Thanks SF, it is the "lumps" we are talking about and they simply have to go.
