Will John McCain Lose To The United States Economy?

now that the mass of voters who can't decide are paying attention, the polls will slip, slide, ebb, wane and change on a daily basis as the vacillating mob oohs and ahs with every twist of the campaign. When the dust settles after the debates, we'll see what will be. IMO, all this stuff is theater, but America will decide based on the debates.

Awesome, awesome, awesome! No wonder you posted this at 3:00AM. Great stuff. i'll have to read it again later because my brain really hurts right now. This is very scary stuff. McCain realy has to come out swinging on this - an dcall a spade a spade. Obama is a major part of the problem and will not be remotely close to the solution. Infact, he's probably frothing at the mouth over the prospect of inheriting an even bigger government that is actively nationalizing industry. Ah, the workers paradise!
This is great BG - I'll be back in later to read and post pithy comments. I got Part III up now.
Goodnight...

i really hope so. barack obama is not exactly FDR, and this may not be anything but a big blip on the economic landscape. if it's anything else, i don't really think barack obama is the one we want in the white house with that skimpy resume. i don't buy the old adages about the political parties. mccain would clearly be the superior candidate to send into the white house if it, indeed, turned into a genuine catastrophe. those debates sure are going to be interesting!

if he's aggressive in the debates, and he has a coherent strategy for addressing this, and (most importantly) a HANDLE on what's at the root of the problem, that economy-is-fundamentally-sound comment may well come back to bite obama.

have you been to flagwaver's blog?
a lot of the bloggers are on to something big here. fannie and freddie are intimately involved with the obama campaign, which is no surprise, considering their left-wing bent. and the fact that they got obama and others in their pocket, allowing them to land in just the crisis situation they're in today, is poison for obama.
the gallup poll today narrowed from six to four for obama. this is a very, very bad sign for him, and better news for mccain than could have been hoped for.

The polls are a good sign. I was keen on McCain's statement as well that the bailouts have to stop. I hope he means it. The flip side is that regardless of what he says or wants to do, it'll all be done by the time he takes the oath. I am sure McCain knows that - yet he still had the backbone to make a statement on it - Obama won't take one and MSM will give him yet another pass. He won't let anyone know what he htinks about anything that is not yet decided - his past RE opinions and ideology is one giant cover up.

I kinda think McCain is gonna really go on the attack - he has to. The only thing Obama really has a concrete position on is abortion and more nany-state programs. I think McCain can really hit Obama hard on the eceonomy - especially since Obama was afraid to state his position - he is afraid to lead. Either that or Obama is just afraid to say what he really things - that government should own all industry and liberate the proletariate. Obama has no experience, no substance and no clue - McCain can really run him into the ground on several issues - economy, pandering to UN, Iraq and the WoT he can also distinguish himself from Bush - which is a must given the fact that Obama seems to be running against the Bush-Palin ticket...
I'm thinking fireworks too - got matches?

You need to put that phrase on a picture of JObama. That's excellent.
If Biden slams Palin like Bentsen hit Quayle, he's done. To his credit I thnik he is ab it more cordial than that, but we shall see. Palin will probably woalk ove there and punch him in the nose if he acts like a jerk. She is tough. My uncle has lived in Alaska since the Korean War and loves her.
McCain has to come out hitting and not let up until he has obliterated all the lies that cometh forth from the mouth of Obama. I think if McCain can make the argument and the connection linking Obama to Fred and Fan, and Johnson and the meltdown, he's in like Flynn. OK, maybe not really in, but people will be begining to doubt the messiah, and that's really all we need to deliver the fatal blow.

is now being investigated by the FBI - this is fantastic news, because they are investigating Johnson, Raines et al for cooking the books to activate their bonuses. We knew Pelosi and Dodd would never hold hearings starring these Clinton hacks, but now they're gonna be forced to - and people will be paying attention. I wonder if the Speaker can be impeached for gross negligence? Barney Frank's head is gonna roll - I will take particular pleasure in that, although given the banking scandal, the gay prostitute scandal and everyehting else he has survived, he could well be the most corrupt Congressman ever.

I have seem some surveys where of course the Republicans are being blamed for this entire mess. Okay! Get some knowledge here please!
There is a lot of blame to go around. I worked in the real estate industry and let me tell you for years Freddie/Fannie were skating on this ice. These corporations became political machines and every one seemed to turn a blind eye.
I remember when Fannie or Freddie switched accountants. They were using Arthur Anderson and it was around the Enron fiasco. They switched to Price Waterhouse and of course nothing really changed. I love how Freddie and Fannie are on record questioned their books years ago and so did investors, but a blind eye was turned.
I am glad the FBI has gotten involved. I do feel that if they did deep enough, some of these Democrats are not going to look too swell after this.

How can he think that one of the prime culprits on this mess (Cuomo was at HUD under Clinton, right?)would make a fine SEC chief? Just when I get comfy he goes and says something stupid like that. sigh.

some of the most major problems facing our nation now would be easily solved via bipartisan efforts. in my opinion, a candidate who moves actual bipartisanship forward on the polarized plate of america's political menu is worth his weight in arugula. keep conservative principles in tact, but move the nation towards a comfortable center, with the economy collapsing and people unable to obtain good health care. it'll ultimately pull the country right.

That is a sobering thought....
What do you think he wil be able to achieve in DC. You thnik he wil be able to get th rest of the Repubs behind him to support some version of a bailout and take credit for saving the economy? That could win him the election, don't you think?
It'll be intreesting: Bush invited McCain, Obama and all Congressional leaders for "pow-wow" and the WH. Obama had no intendtionof going near DC - I wonder what he'll do now? he's got to go or it could be said "he doesn't get it!"

By the way just in case you were curious of the meaning of their names:
"The company is called "Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation". The abbreviation is FHMC, which may sound like "Freddie Mac" See also Federal National Mortgage Assiciation (FHMA)= Fannie Mae."
Just a piece of trivia to get stuck in your head and fall out. And of course it makes no sense to me!

well, the first debate is over. obama did NOT look like the teleprompter kid. he looked strong, this was no knockout, but i still feel mccain won this debate on substance. and even on delivery, obama did look rattled at various points. mccain looked generally pretty calm and together throughout.
the reason we can be reasonably sure mccain won this is that chris matthews looked like he was going to give birth to a calf right there on the live television. reality tv with chris matthews! woo-hoo!!

Thanks for the visual... That makes me REALLY glad I watched it in FOX. The leg tingle thing is bad enough...
I thought McCain looked a bit stronger and got under Obama's skin a bit, but he didn't come out swinging like he needed to. Maybe he was trying to play take the Presidential high-road?
In my opinion he missed a HUGE opportunity when Obama blamed the fiscal crisis on "8 years of George Bush economics..." mac neeed to hit back with the cold, hard truth , and he didnt't. He didn't even bring up that Obama took almost 130K from FM/FM in only two years. (sigh)
I still think he won on substance and fact.
I do wish the commission on Pres debates would allow other candidates to participate (Libertarian, etc...) as none have been even seen in the same building since they almost had Nader arrested for showing up at UMass Boston in 2000. Maybe legitimate 3rd party candidates would help the process - got out of the DC box and talk truthfully instead of soundbites.
At least last night wasn't a soundbite competition - it was constructive.

I agree with your insight from the comment you posted at my place. Obama's riding the wave and wants to ake all the credit for the bailout of those evil greedy bankers on Wall Street. Let him have it - and then rip him and the Dems apart by illuminating the public as to their role in creating and perpetuating this mess. Let him crest now - 5 weeks prior to the election.
Obama said how he was "working the phones" while on the stump and urging colleagues in DC to agree to a deal. Gee, you think he was pushingth deal for ACORN to get 20% of the "bailout" funding? Nah, he wouldn't... Oh, wait a minute... he IS from Chicago...
S&L deal definitely set a precedent, but this is a scale that is unprecedented - and I think it's only the beginning. I don't care how much $$$ they throw at the problem, as long as the govt. is calling the shots, it's a bad deal.
I am demanding from my sleazy faux-conservative corrupt US Rep (Tom Feeny - ugh) that he expose Barney Frank, Pelosi, all of them. Screw the polite talk - all of these folks have just wiped their hind-sides with the Constitution. I'm seriously considering running in 2010 against this clown. too much time left for that, and w/too small a lead held by the opposition. mccain'll have his say. this guy doesn't fall down and roll over, i don't care what anyone on this blog says. he has a strategy. fix the problem, THEN fix the blame. it's actually a pretty good strategy. this mess falls squarely like a bomb into sen. obama's lap in the debates. don't underestimate mccain.
or bill clinton!

I am sure she will do fine. I am just wondering how long before Biden says something off the wall. About 15 minutes.
I remember during the primary Biden saying that Dennis K's (can't spell that last name) wife was so attractive. Oh Joe put a sock in it!

So when exactly is McCain going to reveal this grand strategy?
The man just told the president to forget about the congress and just write a check for $1 trillion dollars!
The Republican Study Committee has a workable plan that doesn't loot the taxpayer. It recognizes the culpability of the CRA and the Banking Bill of '99 and removes those idiotic regulations as a starting point.
McCain is listening to Phil Gramm for economic advice. Gramm is one of those who put the whole thing in place to begin with, so it is unlikely that McCain is going to even listen to the conservatives in the RSC.
Obama's voters don't get excited about big spending as long as they get included.
Conservatives in congress have the answer. The question is will your maverick listen to conservatives?
I think not.

will be all that great. no matter what, it's going to be a haul. but the matter of WHO, exactly, is responsible for all of this is something the average voter's going to be pretty interested in, and letting them know where you can trace this back to... THAT, i think, he'll do.

Here's an interesting piece on lawmakers lack of economic knowledge:
http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2008/10/01/most-lawmakers-do nt-have-economic-education/
“It’s interesting that those who are responsible for solving the biggest economic crisis in generations don’t have the educational background to know the difference between commercial paper and copy machine paper,” said James Bowers, managing director Center for Economic and Entrepreneurial Literacy.
Shocking, isn't it!!!??? Perhaps if they had a solid understanding of the Constitution and the free market we wouldn't be here today?
Looking for info on the new bill's proposed tax breaks, etc.

Local media reporting Obama up by 8 points in Central Florida - but they don't specifically say they're citing the Quinnipiac poll. RCP average for Florida is Obama +3 as of today. You don't think they're a wee bit biased, now, do you?
Plus Monica Lewinsky's boyfriend spoke at UCF today - huge crowd. Ah, the Young Communists are back!

chad, this thing is like a
circus, and i really fear it's going to torpedo mccain's chances if he doesn't aggressively get out there and play pin the tail on the obama. the upcoming debates will help with that, but how to wrestle a twisting donkey to the ground? let's hope mccain brings a teleprompter.

i heard this, honestly. it sailed through the senate with "sweeteners." i shudder to think what a "sweetener" would be like with a bill of this magnitude. my God. that's gotta be one big lake of kool-aid...
better get the soup kitchens open and ready for business!

He must hammer Obama with ACORN, Jim Johnson, Franklin Raines, all that stuff. Obama is playing dirty with the race card. McCain has to bring up all of the above plus Frank Marshall David an dall the other Obama commie asociations, Ayers etc. If he doesn't start swinging, he's done. I hope he's just waiting for October -- oh yeah, IT'S HERE!!!!!!

Thoughts on the debate? i thought Palinheld her own and did very well. Everything was very cordial, no bombs, no gaffes (Biden could have told Ifill to stand up...)I think she connected and did what she had to do. I thought this debate was better than the Pres debate.

had better take notice that dems MADE this entire mess as partisan as possible to ruin mccain's chances in the election, delaying passage of the package and lining it with pork. understandable, since there are many pairs of dirty hands on their side of the aisle, including our Boy Wonder himself, Barack Obama. might come back to bite them in the end.

Please let me know when you post something new. This was an excellent article.
McShamnesty is a lost cause. Especially after the other day when he said that he would put Saint Goreacle in his cabinet if he won.
