Comment on: Conservative Plan for the Uninsured

And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country

JFK Words That Inspire

John Kennedy is still on the front burner of controversy in American culture and politics. Some of it is his own fault, and a lot of it, like with other presidents, is just politics. Nevertheless, the man had a spirit and vision that were of excellent quality. And that quality resounded in his words. And contrary to the smears of detractors, he did seek the well being of this nation. Many look to his moral failings, yet 90% of those critics don't have such a record of purity (that percentage is probably higher). And when we review the dismal immoral behavior of republican politicians, televangelists, and conservative pastors, the only difference seems to be an extra measure of hypocrisy on the right.
He cut taxes, stood up against huge corporate interests, embraced civil rights, powered up the space program, and was in the planning stage of scaling down troops in Vietnam.
He had some liberal legislation that was defeated in congress, but that's the democratic system working in balance. Something we lack today.

Patrick--what happened to democrats?

President Kennedy, a World War II veteran, would not recognize his party today. He sent troops to Vietnam to fight communism, and it seems like we are moving closer to that form of government than one based upon Freedom.
Too many americans are asking for what they can get out of the federal bureaucracy, and don't mind taking out of the pockets of other Americans. It is a dangerous situation in terms of the survival of this Republic.
Hypocrisy exists on both sides. Here's just a couple from the dems:
Culture of Corruption & Hypocrisy
They raise taxes, but don't pay them.

They worry about Global Warming, but fly around in private jets.

They call themselves free thinkers, but hate anyone that disagrees with them.

They applaud communists like Castro, but the Hollywood elite make sure they get that multi-million deal, which they don't share with the WORKERS on their films.

They cry for the children in Darfur, but never put on the uniform and fight.

They care about the men and woman in the military, but not when they want to vote.

They care about the elderly, but only from a distance.

They care about children, but support the drug dealers that poison them.

Honest and fair Americans must point out the hypocrisy and corruption on both sides.

Andrew

Again as in my comments on your other post, and points of view elaborated in my own articles, I do clearly span the idea of detriments on "Both Sides."

This particular article you posted is on JFK, and that is why I chose to concisely and deliberately counter his detractors, and not focus on the detriments of the left. But I must say you did a good enough job in exposing those detriments.

You asked, "What happened to democrats?" Historians no doubt will come up with many answers, but we all know the real answer. Political parties do not save persons, and they don't save nations. Worldly movements can turn very self serving and ingrown. You mention in your other posting (and I do as well in my articles)that refreshing conservative principles are a liberating thing. I couldn't agree with you more; but because people tend to be weak beings - both conservatives and liberals- we need more than a set of principles. We need grace and an undying faith. We don't need empty liberal philosophies, religious neo-phariseeism, or radical conservatism, just true biblical guidance and the liberating grace to live it. Of course, we also know that it's not really all that simple in this world.

"Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven...."

Patrick--well said, again

"My principle is to do whatever is right and leave the consequences to Him who has the disposal of them." --Thomas Jefferson to George Logan, 1813. ME 13:387

Here is a website that you would appreciate:

Kennedy on Tax Cuts/Recession

"The worst deficit comes from a recession and if we can take the proper actions at the proper time, this can be the most important step we can take to prevent another recession. That is the right time for a tax cut. A creative tax cut, creating more jobs and income and eventually more revenue. Across the board top to bottom in both corporate and personal income taxes. The billions of dollars it will place in the hands of the consumers and our businessmen will have both immediate and permanent benefits to our economy. Every dollar released from taxation will help create a new job and new salary. These new jobs and new salaries and other new jobs and salaries. And more customers and more growth for an expanding American economy."

Thoms Jefferson

Andrew. Thanks for the web site on Jefferson. He did have a remarkable intellect. I like to think of him as one leg on the chair of American freedom. The other three being Adams, Franklin, and Washington.
Jefferson portrayed individuality and security for the common man. Adams stood for accountability and integrity in governance. Franklin embodied applied wisdom and pragmatic achievement - a can do spirit. And Washington manifested character, strength, and magnanimous virtue in leadership. All were hard working and courageous. By their contributions, together with other founders of our nation, we have been blessed by Almighty God with the most precious and balanced democratic republic ever known to man. And everyone today has the responsibility to make sure it stays that way!

P.S. It's interesting that you mentioned Kennedy's tax cuts. What is really ironic - and most people are clueless about this - is that John Kennedy, in very substantial ways, was more fiscally and culturally conservative than some mid-road republicans are in the 21st century.
