George W. Bush's Legacy

Dung Heap Legacy.

History will brutalize Bush. He will always be considered the single worst President in our history -- that's a given.

Sadly, he will also be seen as the President who was given the greatest opportunity to unitle the entire world and he blew it.

I only hope and pray he lives a very, very long life so that, in his drunken stupors, he is forced to see face his legacy every day.

Excellent analysis!

Your column was fabulous!

I agreed with virtually every word you said.

Bush's Legacy

I believe that Bush's legacy, like Truman's, will be written in full after he has died. It will rest on one issue and one issue only and it is not WMD.

Was the war in Iraq, which historians will see as having been inevitable based upon A.Q. Khan's proliferation of nuclear material and our having to err on the side of caution, a success? Did it bring a Turkish style form of freedom to the Middle East that toppled dictatorships, or did Wahabbi Islam win out? If it does, Bush will be seen as not attacking the nation that bred most of the 9/11 hijackers as well as not attcking the nation that is currently sending the most jihadists into Iraq. If Iraq's military folds like that of Turkey during the Assyrian massacres circa World War One, all will have been for naught. We cannot have the audacity to send troops into harms way and then have the nerve to allow our politiians, our media, and even some of our very own friends, dictate to them what the Rules of Engagement are. Jack Murtha should be being prosecuted right now and Bush's allowing the Pendleton Eight to sit in jail is exactly the example I am speaking of. He started the war with bad intelligence from George "slam dunk" Tenet and a few generals who said they needed more troops were essentially fired by Rumsfeld. Michael Yon has reported that we are finally winning in Iraq, but starting to lose in Afghanistan. If after all of this Iraq becomes an Al Queda stronghold with Iran's backing, Bush's legacy will pay the price. But more importantly, we will all pay a terrible price. I believe it to be as simple as that.
