People only hear what they want to hear. Rosie thinks that Gen Pace is an ignorant bigot, so she hears what her fantasy is.

Additionally, Gen Pace has likely had an every five years fine tooth comb over his life, at minimum, to maintain his clearances.

If there's a skeleton in the good General's closet, it's buried something deep.
