Education as an issue in the Nov. election?

Sadly, this is nothing new. However, I will agree that it is worse now then ever. My children are adults now, 25&27, and good conservatives. But, when they were children, I would hear the crap they were being taught in school, and I would sit them down and teach them what I feel was right. I think the best advice I ever gave them, was to always question what you are being told. No matter where it is coming from, investigate and find out for yourself. Think independently. It also doesn't hurt to go to the teacher that is teaching offending principles and complain. Not that it will do much good. But being a big burly male, I have had some influence. :-) But seriously, teach your children. You have more influence on them than any teacher. Teach them to learn for themselves, and make sure they know right from wrong.

My problem is that I have been teaching for the last 47 years, and the curriculum choices are getting out of hand. The fact that the NEA et al are such huge lobbies, the fact that most teachers coming out of schools are already nice little socialist pacifists, makes it difficult for parents to have much impact on school boards, PTA's, and or school administrators and teachers. And when they do, they are called Right Wing Kooks. It is maddening.
