Comment on: Gettin' It Right

Hope! Legislators might actually "represent" their constituents!

I have to say I was surprised. He acted like a little kid who did not get his way and was stomping his feet and whining in the corner. I was thinking, WTH is this?

Yesterday when I heard that he wrote that op-ed piece, I thought it was a joke. And then I read it.

I think Obama has realized that this job is not easy, people do not all love him, and oh yes, Congress has a lot more power than he thought they did.

And what is with all of the doom and gloom? Does this guy say anything positive?

And off topic here, but Gibbs is making Scott M look like a good press secretary. I see he got quite testy and nasty yesterday and he seems to be getting testier by the day.

AMEN

This piece is heartening to see, as I believe that--despite what mainstream media wants us to think--there are more people who disagree with this "pork-ulus" bill than there are supporters in favor of it. The blatant display of anger, frustration, and disbelief that our esteemed president has been displaying towards how the democratic system has halted the progress of the bill is eroding that carefully-crafted, shiny, "hope-filled" facade that he has spent years creating. In other words, this bill has come at a perfect time, in that it is showing his true colors early on--and people are taking notice. I am surprised at how obvious it is that he's put out about people wanting to know more about the bill. It's as though he wants us to just happily accept whatever he wants to shove down our throats, and any questioning or resistance is an afront to his supreme authority. Hmmm. . .I wonder if anyone ever explained the idea of president vs. king. . .

Sue - yes, the problem with democracy...

I think the cult of personality has, indeed, met the instructor of his government class: reality. The wide disparity between his and McCain's electoral votes is not quite the same as the margin in his popular votes - and that's what is holding him up. The classic "over-reaching".
I am already dumbfounded by whatever quality Gibbs ever demonstrated that had everyone singing his praises - unless it is to mimic a parrot. The entire Obama senior staff looks to be fraying at the seams...oops. Governing is a difficult task.

Jessica - so much for transparency

You're right - the rush is not really to "save the economy", but to hurry up and pass this stinker before people know how fat it really is! Thank goodness there are people who hold up the 600+ page behemoth so voters can see it - and organizations and reporters who will read the darn thing and make lists of what is really in it! As for his frustration with the process of government - hey, what do people expect when they elect someone who has only been a senator for a couple of years? He doesn't really have any experience with getting a bill passed, does he? This is probably his first time.

Cindy

It seems they have to rush to pass this large bill, so he can have another historic moment and sign it on President's Day. I think the historic rhetoric is out of control and the comparisons to FDR are spinning way out of control.

It is interesting that I have not heard any really bad talk about the Carter years. I was 11 or 12 at the time, but my parents remember it and it was not very pretty. My family was lucky, but others were not.

And as for Gibbs, really he is in way over his head. I have noticed they all seem to have one trait they all share, arrogance.

Sue - arrogance, or delusion?

I am starting to wonder...Sometimes young children who are pretending to be kings or princes or princesses act like they are arrogant, but they are just acting like they think kings, princes and princesses act. It might appear arrogant, or it might be delusional.
Me - well I think the Emperor isn't wearing any clothes. I don't think he's read the bill, I don't think he knows what is in it, and I don't think he knows what it is supposed to do. I think someone else tells him what they want him to do, and he gives his speeches. He performs his function; they pull the strings. I know this is very cynical of me, but this is the impression I have. I base that impression on his level of frustration when things do not come easy - when he is asked questions that he does not like - and especially because I have never heard a President bring up talk radio and conservative television hosts (Limbaugh, Hannity) as often as he does. That's just weak.
Unfortunately, the enthralled are going to take a long time to figure out they've been duped. Until then, I'm trying not to be as insulting toward Obama (in a name-calling way) as the left was toward Bush...it is requiring restraint, isn't it?
Thanks for stopping by - it's always good to read your comments.

Hi Cindy

I would say more toward arrogance, but hanging out with delusion! Look at what they are trying to do with the Census. What is that all about. Yes, I really want Rahm in charge of that. What is going on here?

I think the emperor lost his clothes and everything in between. Why did he let Pelosi touch the bill and run amuck with it? Bad move there.

Loved Tim G chatting today. Every time he said something the Dow kept going down and down some more! Super!

Where is the transparency? What happened with that?

By the way did you hear or see any of that townhall in Florida? I just wanted to poke my eye out! Ugh!

Sue - save that eye!

Haha - save your eye, because we're all going to need good vision to read all 600+ pages of the bill, as well as all the expenditures that are posted on line so we'll know where every dime is spent! Yeah, right.
I buy "arrogance hanging out with delusion" - and I always think of "kids in the candy store" when I see these guys...Gibbs, Geigtner, Biden, Obama...it seems to me like a group of kids who never thought they'd run the the student council, but dreamed of the day...and are trying to get all their craziest ideas put into policy in the first month. I think they are totally scaring most of the people - the others are too far gone to understand. They just think they don't have to pay house payments or buy gas for their cars anymore. I heard the lady in Florida ask Obama for a house with a kitchen - I feel bad for her, but why would you ask your president for that? I thought that was very telling.

Good to see you back, Cindy

I have missed you around here. Of course I haven't been tearing it up too much lately. I've got to agree with you, Obama struck an odd note at that presser. It seems he may have realized the job is bigger than he is.

BMU - nice to be back

Thanks so much for checking in! You know, I hope he realizes how big the job is - I wonder about that. I always admired that GWB held the office in highest regard and most usually comported himself accordingly. I am disappointed, but not surprised, that BHO so easily slips into partisan rhetoric and even taunts the other side - when he ran on post-partisan sentiments. It makes him out to be a charlatan - but that is not a much of a eye-opener to some, either.

Hi Cindy

I say next Town Hall we need to go. What do you want to ask for? I am going for a year's supply of Diet Coke.

If I needed another degree, maybe I could ask for free college tuition and maybe a brand new Escalade. I really like those!

This entire thing has just blown up to I don't even know what anymore. This bill is so out there. And really, what was Obama thinking? Did he just give some talking points and say hey, Pelosi run with it? She needs to go!

Sue - what I'd settle for...

How about just keeping control of our own lives? I'll take that - I'm very concerned about the health care provisions in the Economic Stimulus Bill (if we take the initals backwards, it's BSE...BS Extraordinaire).
Do you watch Glen Beck's new Fox show? It's eye-opening, IMHO. Unfortunately, it's on here at 4PM and that's a hard time slot for a lot of people - but I'm home some days at that time. I wish they would repeat it like they do all the other shows. His take is that they are distracting us with all the "pork" so we won't notice the socialism.

Hi Cindy

Yes, we get Glenn at 5:00. I have using the DVR for the show. I wish they would repeat it. They repeat some of the other shows. We have O'Reilly here 3 times.

I like Glenn's show. I used to watch him on CNN. Now they used to repeat that a couple times a night. Hard to believe I actually put that channel on, but I did.

There are a lot of scary things in that bill. And it is bothering me that people are down playing the health care. But then again, have any of them read the bill? Isn't it over 1,000 pages now?

If you have to have this stimulus, I want a check. And it should only go to tax payers. If they tell me to buy something American, I would. I would also look at property as an investment.

I feel like we have been living this for years and it has only been weeks! Ugh!

Sue - 1,000+ pages and no one knows...

...WHAT is in it! They know what someone has told them is in it...and it's like that old game, "gossip" or "telephone". By the time 2 or 3 people have relayed the info, it's totally different. The cry to hurry and rush this through is causing people to spend much less time passing a 800 BILLION dollar spending bill than they would spend choosing a $36,000 car...or even a $3,000 HDTV. Seriously. I bet those legislators have spent more time studying LCD vs Plasma TV's than they have the details of this bill.
As for what's coming next: You ain't seen nothin' yet! (and I am afraid I do not say that in the excited, positive way it is usually used).

Cindy of Texas

If that is not the saddest or pathetic thing. Hi, we are going to spend all of this money and hey guess what we have 30 seconds to vote on this thing. Oh by the way, no one has even read it. Good luck!

And why is Obama going to campaign for this thing? Will he just go back to Washington? Get off the campaign trail. Does he realize that every decision he makes, not everyone is going to love?

Oh, I am sure there are some many things to come. And I don't mean that in a good way. But hey, if I need to jet out of CA, I can always get on the high speed train to Vegas. And I feel good that my state is going to save Pelosi's mouse. Oh right on! :0

Happy Easter, Cindy

Miss your comments on the blogs. Hope all is well with you and yours. If you get a chance stop by the Grill. I put up a cartoon published in 1934 that is just as relevant today as it was then.

Just found you,

keep posting! Maybe we can influence the debate that is going on in this country.
