Thanks, and I plan to keep on as long as possible.

MY DAD AND INTELLECT

I had to "grow up" (ha!) and leave home before I realized my dad had any sense at all. The older I got, it became rather easy to see that he was a pretty smart feller after all. And a higher education, for him, was high school.

These days, that would be equivalent to a Master's. Well, okay, maybe not quite a Master's, but at least a B.A. Me, too, for that matter. I was lucky enough to be brought up by the Greatest Generation. We, people my age, who were just toddling around when Pearl Harbor was bombed, were the Luckiest Generation.

The fact that I'm still growing up must mean that my dad was smarter and smarter with every one of my years that rolls around (even though he's not here to believe it).

About writing: it is in a pitiful state. There are few high school graduates today who can string sentences together. How can they possibly make it in college? The reason nobody can write: nobody can read. What to do?

A note to Cole: A "read" of The Weedpatch Gazette will leave you with lots of questions, lots of answers (if you search), and create awe. I am still dumbstruck by the sheer volume and compact character of his work.

Thank's for your kind words SF. It generally is the case we come to appreciate the wisdom of our elders as we go along the path they have been on.
