What happened to the Monroe Doctrine?

...that our leaders know what the Monroe Doctrine is...i.e., they'd have to KNOW something! For all too many, that is an oxymoron.

I suspect that the men who articulated and enforced the Monroe Doctrine are no longer running the show in Washington, and the political will to sell the American people on the necessity for doing so is nearly nonexistant.

As I've watched the WOT unfold over the years, I'm not even sure that MSM would cooperate with any attempt to enforce it - Nicaragua being as prime example.
