I tried to get here yesterday but TH was not being cooperative.
A fair assessment of the current situation in my opinion. I agree that the best chance for the conservative movement is to look to the house and senate elections. Even these seats have become problematic, for example, here in Virginia I have actually seen democrat candidates get to the right of republicans. This is facilitated by that famous move to the center you reference.
It is nearly impossible for a real democrat to get to the right of a real, limited government, low tax, social conservative, but it doesn't take much to get to the right of a John McCain.
The republican party got my vote because they stood for my conservative principles. This is no longer the case except in my home district. We may be consigned to wander in the wilderness for a time, I only hope it's not forty years like Moses.

Thanks...
I was unable to connect with your site yesterday to thank you for your very kind comments and sympathy concerning our dear dog, Jack, who we had to put to sleep on Saturday.
It was a horrible experience but since he was suffering there was no alternative--I know you understand that dilemma.
And, it's strange, but we decided to take a walk in the mountains out our back door yesterday, the same walk we took countless times with Jack, and we ran into a couple who rescues Great Danes, ones that are old and no one else wants.
We stood in the woods talking and crying about our respective losses, as they have had to put four of those gentle giants to sleep in five years--an awful thought.
The odds of running into anyone in the rural mountains where we were are incredible, but to run into this particular couple at that moment? Well, it surely felt Providential.
Again, many thanks...

Excellent essay!
Well thought out and presented. I absolutely agree.
Further, a lot of us seem to be thinking along these lines, as this is the thrid or fourth time in the last couple of days when I'll mention that what you've written directly touches upon the theme of my next essay, going up in a day or two.
It seems great minds do think alike, and there does come a time for an idea to hit full ripeness.
Congrats on the upcoming parenthood, and my condolences on having to put your dog to sleep. I still grieve over mine, and its been over a decade.

Very Good
I completely agree. Also thanks for the compliment Brian. I'm one of the great minds he recently said touched on his next essay. Can't wait to read it.

Hmmm
Thank you..thank you..thank you..and thank you...
And imagine what I can write when I am fully awake. That was written at 2:30 am.
I always knew about great minds thinking alike, just took a while to find like minds. Just the kind of minds I may pick when it comes time for the three person committee I am on will be asking the three perspective candidates questions to deem their worthiness of party endorsement.

I just posted my new essay "Bread and Circuses" at the Island. Come on by when you get the chance.
It's the one I alluded to in my earlier comment.
