Juliet Smith's Diary

So....

Do I survive? I'd make a pretty good mutant. Some of us mutate to higher life forms.

This is pretty much how "Camp of the Saints" ends too. A few patriots fight to the end even though they know it's hopeless.

PPhil

Perhaps as we are doing now, fighting to the end knowing it is hopeless.

A sad ending indeed

But might not be far from the truth. If something drastic doesn't take place within our country. We could go as you describe.

Nice series Pep! Will look forward to your next creation!

Goshawk

Yeah, sad ending for sure. Our country may go down this road. We have a good start on it anyway.

Well, my next creation. That will be a mystery until it unfolds.

Pepp

Sheesh, Like I haven't had enough to cry about lately. I can only hope that Juliet's Diary isn't prophetic. But I am so afraid that it is.

Wow

What a way to start my Saturday...

Sheesh, Pep. Very sad ending, but I guess it was inevitable.

Anyway: great job with the Diary.

It would be terrific if you could put it all together and get even a bigger audience for it, because as the others have said, this would wake a lot of people up if they read it.

OK, now; happy thoughts, happy places...

Yo Pepp

I'm with Miss Gimp. I remember a movie a number of years ago about the crew on an American submarine. They either witnessed what you are describing, or saw the aftermath through their periscope. I think they decided to go home even though home may not have existed anymore. I think the movie was called "On the Beach". Maybe one of the dedicated movie buffs on this here TH blog will remember it.

Pep

That's a first. I was the first comment on your blog. Shame on everybody!

BTW

I'm not anywhere near as gloomy as some here. We still have lots of good pieces of the puzzle reassembling and America is still America at the core. Sometimes you have to be pushed to the edge and stare into the abyss to find your character. If we can hold it together until the 2008 elections, I am confident things will improve drastically. The local MSM is relenting to popular opinion on amnesty and the most vocal opponents here are Mexican and black leaders. It is not being reported with enthusiasm but they HAVE to report it. Their audience is shrinking fast already and they can't risk offending every English-speaking person because those are the only customers they have.

USA A OK

Pepp I think you forgot to mention that Texas luckily had its own missle shield (thanks NASA), and survived the onslaught. We here in the Lone Star State then moved quickly to push south and obtained the Pemex oil fields. I truly enjoyed the series!

WTF????

Is this a SOPRANO's ending or what?

Just when we were winning, the Chinese somehow manage to get over here and, using missile technology given to them by William Jefferson Clinton-Rodham, nuke the entire nation? Even though we got kicked outta the country, I don't think the Navy would have allowed the Chinese missile boats to get into position. As soon as they started flooding missile tubes, each would have had torps inbound from Los Angeles, Seawolf, or Virginia class attack boats.

Guess you needed to end this thing early, since Gunny's starting his mini-novel.

All

While it is sad that the Diary has seen it's last entry,it was great fun while it lasted. I have no doubt that Peppermint's fertile brain will soon come up with another even better idea for all her fans. Granted, I would have liked to have seen it go one to a Patriot victory, but, what is not to be is not to be. Also, I don't think there's any law yet that says that a new volume of The Diary can't be discovered one day.

NOOOOO!

Pepp,
It's alright to be cynical every now and then, but that was a sad ending. Ever choosing to be naive, I am and will continue to believe that there is hope for this great Country. I know it appears grim at the moment, but it is Semper Fidelis for me. I have no other choice if we as a nation are to be preserved!!! It will never be over, and I would fight to the death. We've got to suck it up and drive on, with the hope that we can, we will always prevail!!!
'My Counry tis of thee, sweet land of liberty,
of thee I sing..." (

Paulie

I have not been able to get onto my blog until this morning, so I apologize for my late reply to you and the others.

I knew this was going to be a downer for some of the readers, but all good things come to an end.

I hope Mrs. Paulie didn't have to ask you why you were crying this time instead of laughing. :-(

WilliBeax

I'm sure there are lots of stories and movies depicting this ending. I have never read any of them or seen them either. I could not watch something like that.

PPhil

Yes, you were the first to comment and I must say I was surprised as I had barely had the post up when you did.
Thanks.
Oh, I think most of us are not this gloomy and that we hope to keep fighting for our country. But, the story had to end sooner or later and I chose to end it this way.

Yo Pepp

My memory isn't as bad as I thought it was. Here's a link that will take you to the book and the movie "On the Beach".

Psalm23

Well, I know but things were in a mess after the dirty bombs went off and that made it difficult to defend the country from outside forces.

Thanks for stopping by and being such a patriot.

I'll be coming up with a new story in the future.

Crawfish

LOL! Yeah, I guess one could liken it to the Soprano ending. I know I sure was disappointed with that ending. Did Tony get knocked off? Did the family go on? What happens next?

Well, Crawfish all good things come to an end like I said before and I just felt the story was becoming repetitive and soon would lose readers. So I came to the conclusion it was time to put it to rest.

I'm sorry you are disappointed.

Sangrun

Yep, that's it! End of story.

I hope you are doing well and feeling better. How are things going for you? I miss you and the kids.

Purplegimp

Thanks. My "fertile" brain is already working and thinking of my next project.

And, you are right, there is no law that says another volume of the diary cannot be resurrected.

Nee

I understand how you feel completely. Just remember this is just fiction, not reality.

I'm sure all of Patriots will keep fighting for our country and try to bring about the changes we so dearly need to keep our great nation standing.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Pep

New post. Sure to get everyone's dander up. Happened yesterday. Grrrrrr!!

Well, Pepp

Very moving and dramatic ending. I like it a lot. There's a certain eerie resonance to it, recapturing Episode 1 -- which let's not forget was a downbeat tale -- that is very appropriate.

I know a lot of the posters got caught up in the mechanism of seeing names they recognize -- including themselves -- in the unfolding story, but all stories must umtimately end. This was a good ending.

The great Method Acting guru Stanislavsky coined the phrase "less is more"; when I was in college my drama mentor interpreted that to me to mean (correctly) "the audience isn't paying to see you cry; they want to see you try NOT to cry".

This ending, IMO, was haunting. Excellent.

Willi had referred to "On the Beach". It was originally a post-apocalyptic novel by Nevil Shute in the late 50s or early 60s, dealing with the aftermath of a nuke exchange between the US and the Soviets. It was quickly made into an accurate movie interpretation with Greg Peck, Tony Perkins, and Ava Gardner that was excellent though also downbeat. In both, the human race became extinct.

I haven't yet seen the remake -- it's on order from Netflix -- but from the review, it has to do wth a nuclear "accident", so it's obviously going to be a digression from the original cautionary story. I have no idea how good it is..... yet.

Good work.

but even though

It was sad to me, but yes, and as Brian said, appropriate. I guess I had trouble seperating the fiction with some of the real thoughts I have seen of late! It's all good,Pepp. And, It did make me misty...

Brian

Thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you liked the ending. It was difficult to write it.

Nee

I understand your sadness. I felt sad writing the ending. Thanks for coming by again and telling me.

Peppermint

Your story ending made me cry, I cannot swallow this Great Experiment dying like that, and I will fight to the end.

Brutal, yet entertaining story Pep. Let us pray to the Almighty that it does not become reality.

FYI, "Down to a Sunless Sea" predicts the same ending, only world wide, I recommend it to all.

Pepp

I really hope it doesn't end this way. What a way to make sure it doesn't...make us all read it and see how we fell. This was a fun road trip and I enjoyed every moment of it. Can't wait to see what's next!

PappyMichael

Good to see you. I know how you felt. I was pretty sad to end the story. And, actually made myself cry over my own ending.

Knowing you and all the other Patriots I know you all will fight until the end.

RB

I sure hope we don't fall like this. Sure have my moments though when I think this is where we're headed with so many having their heads in the sand.
I am so glad you enjoyed the series.

Wow Pepp

I come back from vacation to see this end. Very sad. Doesn't have to turn out that way in reality though, don't give up! You did a really good job with this whole thing, BTW, what are your plans for the next project? - I've got a piece about conservatives vs. the GOP up. Care to weigh in?

Peppermint

Pepp, from nostalgia of Alcatraz to this. “What--A –Rush”, as they say. Love is blue for sure. You gave a powerful vision to try to rewrite, if we can. All I can think of after your last lines is when it ceased being “of, by, and for the people”. (couldn't even put flags at half-staff)

Pep

Where've you been? Retired? Get back to work! The dark forces are plotting against us 24/7!

PPhil

No, not retired, working my butt off lately at other things. Not much time for me lately. Glad to see you asked about me though. :-D

Remembering Juliet

I had to pop back into the old Pepp's Place to revisit a bit of the diary.

Now that Barry O'Mighty is in the Gray House, I don't think the Chinese would bother hitting us with nukes. He's going to turn us into good marxist/socialist/Maoist fraternal brothers.
