Do I survive? I'd make a pretty good mutant. Some of us mutate to higher life forms.
This is pretty much how "Camp of the Saints" ends too. A few patriots fight to the end even though they know it's hopeless.

But might not be far from the truth. If something drastic doesn't take place within our country. We could go as you describe.
Nice series Pep! Will look forward to your next creation!

Sheesh, Pep. Very sad ending, but I guess it was inevitable.
Anyway: great job with the Diary.
It would be terrific if you could put it all together and get even a bigger audience for it, because as the others have said, this would wake a lot of people up if they read it.
OK, now; happy thoughts, happy places...

I'm with Miss Gimp. I remember a movie a number of years ago about the crew on an American submarine. They either witnessed what you are describing, or saw the aftermath through their periscope. I think they decided to go home even though home may not have existed anymore. I think the movie was called "On the Beach". Maybe one of the dedicated movie buffs on this here TH blog will remember it.

I'm not anywhere near as gloomy as some here. We still have lots of good pieces of the puzzle reassembling and America is still America at the core. Sometimes you have to be pushed to the edge and stare into the abyss to find your character. If we can hold it together until the 2008 elections, I am confident things will improve drastically. The local MSM is relenting to popular opinion on amnesty and the most vocal opponents here are Mexican and black leaders. It is not being reported with enthusiasm but they HAVE to report it. Their audience is shrinking fast already and they can't risk offending every English-speaking person because those are the only customers they have.

WTF????
Is this a SOPRANO's ending or what?
Just when we were winning, the Chinese somehow manage to get over here and, using missile technology given to them by William Jefferson Clinton-Rodham, nuke the entire nation? Even though we got kicked outta the country, I don't think the Navy would have allowed the Chinese missile boats to get into position. As soon as they started flooding missile tubes, each would have had torps inbound from Los Angeles, Seawolf, or Virginia class attack boats.
Guess you needed to end this thing early, since Gunny's starting his mini-novel.

While it is sad that the Diary has seen it's last entry,it was great fun while it lasted. I have no doubt that Peppermint's fertile brain will soon come up with another even better idea for all her fans. Granted, I would have liked to have seen it go one to a Patriot victory, but, what is not to be is not to be. Also, I don't think there's any law yet that says that a new volume of The Diary can't be discovered one day.

Pepp,
It's alright to be cynical every now and then, but that was a sad ending. Ever choosing to be naive, I am and will continue to believe that there is hope for this great Country. I know it appears grim at the moment, but it is Semper Fidelis for me. I have no other choice if we as a nation are to be preserved!!! It will never be over, and I would fight to the death. We've got to suck it up and drive on, with the hope that we can, we will always prevail!!!

LOL! Yeah, I guess one could liken it to the Soprano ending. I know I sure was disappointed with that ending. Did Tony get knocked off? Did the family go on? What happens next?
Well, Crawfish all good things come to an end like I said before and I just felt the story was becoming repetitive and soon would lose readers. So I came to the conclusion it was time to put it to rest.
I'm sorry you are disappointed.

Well, Pepp
Very moving and dramatic ending. I like it a lot. There's a certain eerie resonance to it, recapturing Episode 1 -- which let's not forget was a downbeat tale -- that is very appropriate.
I know a lot of the posters got caught up in the mechanism of seeing names they recognize -- including themselves -- in the unfolding story, but all stories must umtimately end. This was a good ending.
The great Method Acting guru Stanislavsky coined the phrase "less is more"; when I was in college my drama mentor interpreted that to me to mean (correctly) "the audience isn't paying to see you cry; they want to see you try NOT to cry".
This ending, IMO, was haunting. Excellent.
Willi had referred to "On the Beach". It was originally a post-apocalyptic novel by Nevil Shute in the late 50s or early 60s, dealing with the aftermath of a nuke exchange between the US and the Soviets. It was quickly made into an accurate movie interpretation with Greg Peck, Tony Perkins, and Ava Gardner that was excellent though also downbeat. In both, the human race became extinct.
I haven't yet seen the remake -- it's on order from Netflix -- but from the review, it has to do wth a nuclear "accident", so it's obviously going to be a digression from the original cautionary story. I have no idea how good it is..... yet.
Good work.

Brutal, yet entertaining story Pep. Let us pray to the Almighty that it does not become reality.
