Is this guy serious
I read this and just had to laugh. While agree with the general premise that most Doctors are clueless regarding adequate hydration, it is obvious the guy who wrote this article on water is more clueless. I bet money this guy has no more than a bachelors degree and is probably one of these fitness people who has a certification and reads internet research all day long with not a clue about how to put it all together. Hydration is much more about water. It has to do with electrolyte balance, fatty acid ratios, aqua porons in the cell membrane (water just does not magically cross over into cells), and the actual size of the water clusters (H20 molecules clump together in different size groups). Making it out like hydration is simply a matter of drinking more water is just as ignorant as saying 8 classes of water is not necessary. I commend the author for writing this, but for god sakes please educate yourself first. Trust me, the study done on the 8 classes water was well designed and if you stopped for a moment to actually read it instead of just reading abstracts or media summaries you would see that it makes some valid points. However, it fails to take into account the real issues leading to dehydration and why most people (not all) will benefit from higher water intake. Namely very high sodium to potassium ratios, increased stress levels, imbalanced omega 3 to 6 ratios (decreased membrane fluidity), and poor mineral content in most waters we currently drink. BTW, drinking large amounts of water at one sitting can potentially dehydrate someone as the kidneys will work over time to get rid of the fluid to maintain a constant blood volume and pressure. If you are trying to increase your water it is best spread throughout the day with no more than 4-8oz taken at one time.
