Air conditioning

I agree with this dude about the lack of social interation in today's society. Air conditioning could well be a contributing factor. It seems to me it has gotten much worse with the "electronics revolution". I've seen to people walking in LA, obviously together, and one is talking on a cell phone! The, I believe, is rude, crude, and socially unacceptable.

Another contributing factor is the mobility of the population. I don't know the average time people stay at an address is. Until I move to LA, I averaged less than five years. As I recall, the author of this piece sais he has been at the same address a bit longer. We can still know our neighbors, but it takes more effort.

A larger problem resulted when air conditioning was installed in the Capital building, allowing Congress to meet all year long! As Mr. Jefferson said, "No man's life or property is safe when the legislature is in sesson."
