This about sums up conservatism in a nutshell. I really liked that.
And, for the one part about letting parents raise their children. Please gubmint butt out of our kids lives. Egad, they are becoming socialists under the gubmint.
I've been gone for awhile emjayne, but have a new article up, a rant I had coming on. Come on over when ya get yer chance.

emjayne, Amen Three!
For the last 2 weeks I have been "covered up" with work and family. I have even taken the first exam to become a High School Teacher (Praxis I). I easily passed Reading and Mathematics, scoring a "perfect score" in math. I just hope I did OK in writing.
IT TAKES A FAMILY (i.e., father, mother, grand parents, siblings, etc.) TO RAISE A CHILD. Hillary's book is a bunch of "horse hockey".

I had never heard of Praxis...Is it nationwide?
I went and looked it up and I think it is a great thing for certifying teachers. When did it start?

OK you say that and I say that and quite a few of our friends on here say that.
So how come there are so many liberals? And how come there are so many backing OB?
And I won't get into two daughters we have, one of whom is liberal but too busy to pay attention and the other is as far left as it is possible to be. Both women are well above average intelligence in every way but their politics!

Its about how you think.
If a person thinks with logic first, they will be a conservative.
If a person thinks emotionally first, they will be liberal.
Though, life experiences change how a person votes and thinks and the tendency is that older people tend to be more conservative seeing how liberalism fails. They are also more apt to research issues rather than take a politician at his word.
Most every liberal I know is not educated on any issues. Sure, they aren't inherently stupid, but they are ignorant to the facts of the matters.

Thank you, my scentiments exactly, as I was target practicing on MY land yesterday I had someone screaming at me to stop shooting. I told him it was my land and my gun, he was the one trespassing on my property along w/another fishing in MY creek. I asked if he wanted to call the sheriff to decide who was correct. I wasn't shooting at the creek, but I could if I wanted, I wouldn't be so reckless as he was.
He backed off, I said "You can fish from the bridge which is public access, but if your children drown in that swift water, (He had 2 who were at the most 5 or 6 yrs old in VERY swift water.) that he had been forewarned and I had NOT given him permission to fish on MY land or for his kids to be in my creek. I also told him I had pictures of the tags of both vehicles. His buddy had their chair on my property and I kindly asked them to remove it to the bridge because I own the land and the creek! The person moved, but they weren't watching the kids! What kind of morons let small children play in water that is waist deep and would wash a truck off a bridge and has?!

Wow interesting story!! Do you have it posted? Not that that would keep them out if they are the type to trespass.
Glad they didn't come after you!

The sheriffs know me here and they take care of me. They know when I call something is wrong, I don't involve them if it isn't something I can handle. In fact they've told me to call them more because it's their job and that I'm not a nuisance, that they get calls that are ridiculous and mine aren't.

Emjayne- Thats Easy!
People are liberals because all the media and the school system have made that the default setting in most people's brains. People who dont think about politics are all liberals. Dont you want to fix the weather? You dont really want Exxon to build a dirty oil refinery do you? Its really sad that people cant earn a decent living. If we just give the schools some more money they'll get better. That all makes sense doesnt it? Or are you one of those meanies who wont cough up to help your fellow man?

AHA!! OK I see it and our training wasn't enough to win out over the propaganda. And both women are very sensitive, empathetic people which further leads them to want to "help the world".
You make it very clear! And you make me feel better. :-))

Congress should confine itself to the enumerated powers listed in the Constitution, if it did so we would not have half the problems we do.

nice to see you.
You are, as usual, right.
Even more important, if Scotus stuck to its
"enumerated powers" we would be even better off.
But it's been a long time since Scotus completely stuck to its job and even longer since Congress stuck to its job.
I am not holding my breath waiting for either to happen.

Pretty good summary
Nofzinger is rarely wrong.
Conservativsm is based on reality, the reality that our Founders understood, the reality of human nature, of the potential for corruption, of "incentives" and how they impact behavior.
Conservatism recognizes the existence of self-interest (called "greed" when it runs loose) and taps it as Smith's "invisible hand" to increase the "wealth of Nations" ...and raising standards of living for individuals.
