Sounds like a terrific ceremony.

BTW and FYI: new Fed laws were issued that permit veterans to SALUTE the flag and during the National Anthem, as opposed to just putting our hands over our hearts. Read about it in VFW Magazine. Apparently this went into effect last November.

I think you'll find that membership in VFW is promulgated on holding a campaign medal for service in a war zone not necessarily in combat operations.

I'm happy to hear my boys were looking like Marines should, never expected differently. Semper Fi!

I attended many such gatherings as my Dad was a Korean War Vet and a Legion Member/Officer. A FUNNY story with NO DISRESPECT of Veterans intended. The guy who played taps on Memorial Day was in ICU on Memorial Day a few years back. Dad was Treasurer and they came to him and asked if there were funds available to teach someone to play it PDQ as Memorial Day was 1 week away. Dad said he would get back to them. He asked my brother to go online and see if there was anything they could find in the way of fast, local, cheap, music lessons. My brother found a bugle with a digital recording of Taps implanted INSIDE the bugle. Dad bought and had it overnighted to the Legion. The next day he told the Legion that he had solved their problem and that HE HIMSELF had bought a bugle and would learn to play taps. The time came, Dad put the bugle to his lips and flipped the switch. They were ASTONISHED! Several members told Dad they couldn’t remember hearing Taps played so well. LMAO!

I attended the ceremony at Camp Perry Battleground ( and cemetery). Taps was play by two students, echoing each other, and then there was the 21 gun salute accompanied by firing of 105 howitzers by a National Guard unit, closed with a flyover by 3 UH60's.

I took the privilegdge of using the hand salute when approriate.

Made me proud to be a vet in this community.

Wish I could've been there, it sounded awe-inspiring.
Reminds me of when I marched in the Veterans Day parades when I was in high school. We played all the military anthems and then when to the Veterans/Vietnam memorial to pay our respects. There was hardly a dry eye as while we were there.
My old Jarhead dad will always stand straight up every time he hears the Corps anthem. And it makes me so proud to see it and I'm so proud to call him my dad.
Nee, I know you've heard this a million times before, but, thank you for your service.
