seeing Pat go down like this. The man is very intelligent and actually has a lot to offer. Unfortunately his own ideology conflicts with what we need today. I don't think he'll ever change. Not only are we in an ideological war with Islam we are in an ideological war within our borders. As you stated, all wars are about ideology.

like Vietnam, we are so worried about public opinion, world opinion, and whether or not our enemies will take exception to a stronger push in the region, that we play police force in that region. This is a war and needs to be treated as such. Strong defensive measures only last so long. Peace is achieved by a strong offense. Play chess, and you'll see what I mean.

Right on you are, again. Many libertarians and the left say the problem is our occupation or presence in these other countries. If they (terrorists, jihadists etc) wanted us to leave, say Iraq, they have funny ways of making the point. They could stop their violence at any time, with little repercussions outside their own. Finished.
