Why Not John Wayne?

Dr. Steech

I did not mean to imply a shortage of energy, just that the sources we are now dependant on are in some of the most politically unstable and anti- American areas of the world.

Whether we like it or not, oil is currently the lifeblood of our industrial world, and until that changes our energy supplies will be at the mercy of the likes of Chavez, Terrorists, and Iran. It doesn't get more precarious than that.

And thanks as always for stopping by.

The Duke

John Wayne always played a character that was a manly man. This is unacceptable in todays leftist leaning world. The Duke played characters that lived and died based on principles right or wrong. In todays world of relativism, there is no place for strong principles. I assume the writer was more angered than shocked.

"Maybe there is hope for this country yet"... quite revealing indeed...you wouldn't know it by looking at the movies that are nominated for the academy awards...Hollywood crams trash down the public's throat, yet the public clearly like the decent and uplifting movies (which make the most money), as indicated by their choice of favorite movie stars including John Wayne!

I wish Hollywood and the MSM would get a clue...

Great article!

James

I honestly think he was shocked, though anger certainly lurked beneath the surface.

At one point he even compares this to Elvis Presley being chosen as a favorite singer. Now I am not a fan of his, but I know many people who WOULD say he is the greatest singer!

Corliss just seems to be amazed that some people are not willing to sacrifice proven greatness for something "new" and "modern", and that is exactly what I see as the Liberal problem-"progress" is everything, and nothing must stand in its way.

Sheila

As the father of a daughter who is 21 I am too well aware of the trash passed off as "entertainment" for the last 15 years or so [interesting how the lowering of standards coincides with the beginning of the Clinton era- and people still insist that was a "golden"time!].

I don't know if they are ever going to get a clue.

Leftists claim that us conservative don't like change. They don't ever seem to catch on to the fact that we don't like change just for the sake of change. we also don't like change when the downside outweighs any perceived upside. And I do mean PERCEIVED. These self proclaimed progressives still haven't explained where we are progressing to.
