Obama Stars In PATRIOT WITHOUT A PIN?

Patriotism

I do have to say Susan, that, in my view, conservatives have made "patriotism" a dirty word, just as they have made "compassion" a dirty word. Nothing is so trite as Hannity's "you're a great American."

I don't know if this has anything to do with Obama's not wearing the pin, but there's the old Groucho Marx line, "I would never want to be a member of a club who wanted me as a member."

Proud Liberal - Define "Great American"

Thanks again for your comment.

I don't believe for a minute that conservatives have made "patriotism" or "compassion" a dirty word. Please explain how Obama's refusal to wear the American flag lapel pin is "patriotic"? He seems to feel that it is more patriotic to cast aside the pin and simply do good deeds. Is there any reason why he can't do good deeds and also wear the pin?

I think he just said "farewell" to any chances he had of being our president. This was a complete lack of any type of positive political strategy on his part.

I don't view Sean Hannity's comment "You're a great American" as being trite. It's just a different way of saying "Hello." If you don't like Sean Hannity, why do you listen to his show?
You could listen to some Bruce Springsteen albums instead.

Face the facts

Face the facts, Proud Liberal (redundant), Sean Hannity is a great American -- one who supports our troops and our war on terrorism. O'Bama is highly suspect, and his theatrical removal of his lapel pin mirrors how Democratic candidates hate being pinned down on issues.

Brack Obama and the Flag Pin Flap

Barack Obama and the Lapel Flag Flap

This week, Barack Obama has announced that he will no longer wear the American flag pin on his lapel. His reasoning is that it is a phony symbol that substitutes for real patriotism (which is doing the things that he feels would make America great. (I am of course, paraphrasing). Obama said that he began wearing the pin after 9-11, but that his latest decision is linked to our responses to 9-11 and Iraq. In response, many jumped on the issue to question his patriotism. I think that is too symplistic. Obama is just as patriotic as, well....most other Democrats in Congress, whatever that means. But seriously, this is a small matter and should be nothing more than a blip on the radar screen. It does raise a question in my mind about one's motives for wearing the pin in the first place and the decision to take it off....
