Should The ACLU Be Stripped Of Their Tax Exempt Status?

A most excellent question

Mountain,

Their tax-exempt status, as I understand it, comes from their non-profit organization status. However, there are laws on the books that prevent NPOs from engaging in politics directly. I believe Marcie's point is well-founded in that the ACLU has never abided by the rules, per se.

And yes, they do mix religion and politics quite frequently. Their religion, of course, is atheism, and that's the America they would rather have. Like most liberals of the extreme, unhinged, moonbat fringe, these people have grossly misinterpreted the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment by latching onto Hugo Black's own stupidity.

Thomas Jefferson's letter to the Danbury Baptists where the now infamous phrase "separation of church and state" is derived from is neither law, nor precedent. He was simply explaining why he wouldn't be having the sort of "memorial" days as his predecessors had. He believed that the government shouldn't be involved in religion, and vice-versa, which is the proper interpretation of the Establishment Clause. It doesn't "ban" religion from the public.

It simply states that the government can't interfere with religion, and the reverse is true, as well. The Founding Fathers didn't want a government directly connected to a Church as England's was.
