My Day With The Ornery Elephant

Elephant!

Scottie, you are so correct. Sometimes we forget the greatness of this country. I am glad you had such a good time and helped a vet.

(BTW, Terre Haute is a fine city. Have you ever been to Vincennes for George Rogers Clark Days?)

Absolutley delectable....

...composition, Scottie.

Like ambrosia for the mind.

Delicious!

good to see you weren't washed away

Sounds like you had an enjoyable time helping a vet out. Glad to hear that there are many more out there with good sense and values. My hoosier family was spared the most of the storms being to the north east of you. Glad you weathered the storm ok

Scottie

Great story. It truly IS people like you,the Elephant, and countless others who really are the people that make the country work.

Grey Ghost

I haven't had the pleasure yet, but Bill still needs a hydrant hooked up, so maybe a return trip is in order. Who knows?

Jimmy

Coming from my chief editor, I'm gratified my standards haven't slipped during my hiatus. Thanks for dropping by old friend.

Chopperman

We managed to get through it OK, but since the Misssus runs an insurance agency, you can imagine the unbelievable stress she's been under the past couple of days. It truly was an unbelievable amount of rain. I've heard seven to ten inches in a couple of hours.

Clyde

Thank you so much for the kind words. Just doing what's right is all. Thank you for stopping by and leaving such a nice comment.

There are three types of people

1. Those that make things happen
2. Those that watch things happen
3. Those that ask "What the hell happened?"

My Man, Scottie!

Hey Scottie,

Truly a great piece here that you've written and wow, what kind words you have included. It truly was a great weekend, one I will remember for many, many years. Not only did I get to finally get to meet Bill in Lawrenceville, a veteran who I have admired and respected from afar, but I got to finally meet the one-and-only Scottie!

What your readers don't know from your blog entry, Scottie, is that you walked away from flooded basements, washed out driveways and a wife full of concern in order to help Bill out and yes, I totally agree that it is times like we spent hammering and sweating and laughing that make this life worth living.

I remember a preacher on tv many years ago saying how he is always asked "Why are we here on this Earth?" and he said his reply was always the same: " To Help Each Other"

Scottie, thanks for putting our memory in print here and thanks for being a stand up guy and truly an American I am proud to call friend.

Ornery elephant

Glad to see you got that registration bug worked out. Now you can stop by and leave your footprints here at Townhall. And thanks for the kind words pal; the feeling's mutual.

Scottie!!!

You truly are one and only...Ornery E. sounds like a guy I would love to meet. I am of the mindset that if you can, you should try. It is frustrating to those that don't get it, but a very endearing quality, nonetheless. It made me cry, too. You and your Mrs. ROCK! So does the Big E...Nice to see he can comment.
This really was delectable...

JC

Glad to see you, Jam Apple...I was just about to shoot ya and email saying, "Where in the world is Jimmah?" :)

Nee

Glad to see I haven't lost my touch; and always glad to see you've dropped by.

Good job

and good story.
An excellent reminder of what it means to be an American and to help others.

Red

Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment. Do come by when you can, you are most welcome.

For any other reader dropping by, check out Red's blog. Some great stuff over there.

Scottie

Great job. This was a wonderfully moving piece of prose.

Notice the difference between the folks in the Heartland and those in N'awlins. The Heartland folks work to fight the floods, and if that fails they roll up their sleeves and work together to put things right. If an evacuation is needed, they bug out in time. They don't want the federal gummint to be their saviors. They don't blame the President or FEMA for their plights. They don't loot everything in sight.

I can only imagine what's gonna happen in a few days when these flood waters get down to the N'awlins area.

Ornery Elephant

Welcome to Townhall! Any conservative kinda guy from the land of frozen ponds is welcome to visit the nice warm muddy waters of Crawfish's Swamp. From Scottie's description, you're a helluva guy. Thanx for helping out Veteran Bill.

The Crawfish

Thanks for the welcome! Good to be here. First off, meeting Scottie was a true bonus and as far as helping out Bill...well, I believe I am the one that walked away from that experience, a luckier man. Let me know Crawfish when you want to trade some lutefisk for some gumbo!

Crawfish

Well said my friend and spot on. Heartland folks are doers not whiners. By the time the gubmint gets here, the job will be mostly done. I can't imagine a New Orleans style fustercluck happening here.

1maschrom

Thank you for the kind words. I am always gratified when my essays elicit a positive response. Good to see you here at the Heartland.

Ornery Elephant

I see you've met the Crawfish, one of the more prolific posters here at Townhall. Check out his Swamp when you get a chance. At Townhall, if a person's name is underlined, it is a link to their blog. Just click Crawfish's name and you'll find yourself at The Swamp. This name link works from anywhere in Townhall. So if you see someone commenting on an article or blog that strikes a chord with you, you can follow their name back to their blog.

Scottie

this just goes to show that while America has a lot of problems, we will always answer with solutions rather than excuses.

Apollyon67

Amen to that brother. America will survive as long as that spirit remains.

I thought it was remarkable...

in showing the longstanding friendships that can be forged based on common values & genuine, sincere thought.

I would go through a rainstorm to see you too. But that's just me.

Elephant

dunno what lutefisk is, but my wife (from Louisiana) makes a mean gumbo! I can send ya the recipe.

Shining City

I am touched by your comment Doc, truly. I will strive to always be worthy of your friendship. BTW, did you hear I'll be moving my daughter to Texas? I wonder who I might run into down that way? A mutual friend perhaps?

Scottie

If you get a chance stop by and read my article entitled "After Shocks: D.C. vs. Heller".

I think there is a consequence of this ruling that the Looney Left and the Liberal Elites will hate.

Scottie

Of course I did hear. I hope you will make a very concerted effort to cross paths. Ask about the webcam.
