Quick note: It's great to see a new blogger on TH. As part of the TH family just wanted to say hello and wish you luck with your site.
Now, I have to take issue with something you said "America is not nor ever has been a racist country". Slavery ring a bell? The Constitution declared every black man to be 3/5 of a person!
Now of course, the Democratic Party was horrible on race for most of it's existance up until the 1960s when both parties made a deal to switch sides and the Republicans took the South and Democrats got almost all of the black vote in what was known as the Southern Stragety.
Of course today the Republican Party itself is not racist. We do have some members who are though as you can see with the Sotomayor handling. I truly do believe though that the political policy we ultimatly believe in is not racist but we must do more to ensure equal treatment and equal oppertunity exist.
Again best of luck.

Reason for the 3/5 person ruling, 1
The 3/5 person ruling was an attempt to keep the slave South from using its slave population, 4 million, from growing in federal political power and federal representation. The aim was to keep the slave population number as low as possible so the South wouldn't use the slave to entrench itself politically.

America did not invent man's inhumanity to man. All nations, all people, most of human history is filled with men being inhuman to other men due to some immaterial difference. However, any people or nation is as wise as its leaders and America was; in fact, ready to rise above the institution of slavery and racism. Study the brief period of the Southern Reconstruction era right after slavery. The South during that period was a color blind society. In fact the original targets of the Ku Klux Klan were not the ex-slave or free blacks but Republicans coming there to help.

The Southern strategy?!?! So, the democrats picked up the black vote and gave the Republicans the South, therefore, democrat racism. What have the blacks received in exchange for their vote from democrats? What did the poor blacks of New Orleans receive from the democrat party for their votes?
This is what the blacks received from the Republican party in the Southern strategy exchange! Today, blacks are returning to the once Jim Crow democrat South in massive numbers. This is the exact opposite from when democrats controlled the South up to the 1960's when blacks were lynched by democrat political officials and law enforcement. Republicans have ended all Jim Crows laws. Republicans are not lynching thousands of black Americans and never have. Just because Republicans merely have a competitive political presence does not equate us with democrats and never will.
I'm sure many Americans have racist feelings. In fact, it was the democrat party that as a matter of political strategy instilled those racist feelings in our nation and they have taken root in both democrats and Republicans because we were both exposed to democrat institutional racism. This has had a negative effect on all Americans, democrat and Republican alike.
