Horrible Precedent, Horrible President

Pretty shallow stuff

I have read about 8 books on Lincoln and been to the Library 3 times. Doesn't make me an expert but it does allow me to recognize an agenda and a lack of detailed knowledge of the subject when I see it.

He didn't wish to made a martyr or myth. That was done by others. If you look at the circumstances that he was thrust into and what he was up against at the time, I think you will find that what he accomplished was very remarkable. His feelings about slavery and the union are well documented and much more complex than you seem to realize. He was a skilled lawyer and very aware of the the constitutional questions regarding some of his actions. Again, his thouughts are well documented. It is common today to judge our historical figures by todays standards. It is also inlectually lazy. As a former teacher it might behoove you to do more research about Lincoln and what he truly accomplished in his life and times rather than heap fast food version of judgement based on the times we live in today. Until you do, your diatribe is pretty hollow. As for Dr DiLorenzo, being a professor and author doesn't mean that you dont have an agenda and, for the matter, that you even know what your talking about. Pretty sad.

Okay

Sorry, Dan. The data are out there. There's no doubt that Lincoln was nothing short of brilliant. How else do you explain his abilities in thought and writing with the limited education he had. ?

But . . .

The data are clear and irrefutable. Complex? Read the Constitution! It's not just for the lawyers and the elites! He violated it, no ifs, ands, or buts about it and the body count is up waaaaay over 600,000!!!

It's only complex, I guess, if you choose to debate what the meaning of, say, "is" is.

Pretty sad indeed!
