Stupid gubmint? LOL
I think there are a lot of really ignorant people in this country that think money grows on trees instead of coming out of their pockets. After all look at all the liberals so willing to go for anything they "think" is free being offered up by HillBilly and BO.

Is it just that information is so much more available now...or is Congress worse than ever?
Maybe it's just that we know so much more of what's going on. I know when I was young (although I'm sure I wasn't that much interested :-)) ) there didn't seem to be so much info out there so we didn't know what was happening.

How many times do you hear "oh the government will take care of it" and if you try to say "the government is operating on my money" they look at you like you're nuts.
There are generations now living off "the government" which means living off you and me.

EMJAYNE -- CAN YOU SAY "UNCLE"?
That's what it used to be called, at least in some circles. "Living off 'Uncle'." But in those days it was considered shameful to be in any way on the public dole. Shameful. Somebody had to be lower than the low to ever take a handout from the government.
What has changed in our lifetime? Now it's almost EXPECTED, particularly among those who need it least. There are so many "entitlements" these days it's just unreal.
I hadn't heard about being informed by USPS that we were going to be, what is it?, reimbursed? Shoot fire, I haven't received my notice yet. And I filed a return. Mercy! I do hope they don't forget about ME ME ME ME ME!
Have you heard the one about the "me generation" turning into the "gimme generation"? (Actually, I made that one up, but I like it.)
And now there's a new gimme generation. Probably made up of more than a few illegals, too. Think about that one.

You are full of good news tonight :-))
OK what changed in our lifetime started with Roosevelt trying to make sure that no one in the country was desperate and, naturally, knowing Congress, that increased over the years and then along came Johnson, who decided we still weren't doing enough so enlarged it tremendously.
This all led to the welfare mothers who got more money with each baby, and the fathers who didn't marry the mothers, leading to generation after generation staying right there on the dole.
I am sure you know all this but it doesn't look like it will ever change now. There are other things which led to the present, of course, too many to go into.
I like that phrase "the me turning into the gimmee"
I don't know if we got the letter because we already filed our tax report or not.

I was going to ask how senior you were, but as I read some of your posts it seems that you may be older then me [only 64].
Yes let's spend millions to tell people to file to get the B.S. "stimulus" check the government is going to send out.
When will people realize there is NO FREE LUNCH.
I have withholding taken out of my pension, now [the first full year I got Social Security] I have to have withholding on that. Why complain to the government? They will just tell me I "won lifes lottery" the usual Democrat/liberal B.S.
The worst words you can hear are, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you." If the government wants to help you be sure to put your hand over your wallet.

well, first, people will learn theree is no FREE LUNCH when there is no Free Lunch. I don't see that day coming soon, do you?
Gee, you really have the govt . figured out!!
LOLOL Congress has the biggest bunch of ....
too many bad words to describe them!! They are beyond disgust!
As for my age, we have been talking about that in here but I forget whose blog it was on
I am 80, and my husband turned 86 the 3rd of this month. He told me a long time ago that he didn't expect to live past 55. I don't know what happened!! But it's amazing. We have the usual aches and pains for our ages, but in pretty good health, work out at the Y 3 times a week, and bowl. We both played golf for a lot of years. So 64 seems YOUNG!! :-)))

As long as the government takes money from the haves and gives it to the non producers, people will believe in a free lunch.
80 and 86 more power to you both. I did read on here your husband was 86 but was not sure about you.

Ok then there will be no end to Free Lunch, obviously. As long as we have this system of government, congressmen (and women) will always need to buy the votes of people who are receiving the Free Lunch.
No news here...too bad we couldn't come up with some new ideas to solve the problem.
The days that Friggle was talking about of being on the dole and ashamed of it are long gone.
