I'm not gay, but I had no idea one could truly be "ex-gay"?

I have gay friends who were neither molested, came from a broken home, grew up around homosexuality, are overtly feminine, or etc. While they have similarities, they are still distinct individuals with their own quirks. However tey have all told me they didn't choose to be gay. Did I mntioned they are all either African American and/or Latino. Are they somehow delusional? Are they lying to me? Why would anyone choose to be discriminated and hated, especially as a "double minority"?

Btw, does someone choose to be straight? I don't recall doing so. I just saw a picture of Jayne Kennedy as a kid.....and the rest is history. Please explain this to me.
