Good post, and I've been saying this as well. Greenspan was celebrated as some kind of genius when in fact,HE is the one who knowingly or unknowing started this slip downward. The people who are so worried about Obama taking the country in a socialist direction need to look at the current crop in D.C. as well. Between Fannie,Freddie,AIG,the Big 3,ad nauseum, this administration is doing a bang-up job of nationalizing a HUGE chunk of our economy now. Wonder where oh where in the Constitution do they find they have the authority for ANY of these bailouts? Thanks be to Lee Iacocca! Although Chrysler paid the guarantees off early,it set a dangerous precedent. And they STILL have troubles. Any bets on whether or not these other firms follow suit? Wouldn't hold my breath.

Fannie Mae

was INTENTIONALLY cooking the books for years so the top dawgs could get huge bonusses. During that time, the head of FM was Clinton's former OMB Director, who is now one of Obama's economic advisors.

As for Josh Howard...his liberal twit team owner, Mark Cuban, is more concerned with his players' public image than what they actually say or do. I've spent my last $ on my hometown basketball team until they get a new owner. Howard would probably love Black Liberation Theology and buy into it wholeheartedly. Mo-Ron!

Hi Flag, good points, as usual,

unfortunately, when it comes to the 'new tone' and cross-exchanges of accusations of falsehoods, in the end its seems as though too many people just remember both sides making accusations and lump them together, as opposed to looking into the substance of the charges from either side. Which usually benefits the Dems, as it does Obama in the example you've provided.

Too bad that the 'new tone' wasn't like new Coke. When the latter was a huge bust and no one liked it, it was withdrawn pretty quickly. Even if the 'new tone' isn't any more popular with most folks, I rather doubt any politician involved will disappear any time soon.

Drop by my place if you've a mind to, I think I've got a few new posts up since your last visit, your comments are always productive and welcomed.

Hi folks!

Clyde: I can almost always count on you being first, which means you are checking in on the Spade! I appreciate the support! As to your post, Constitutional authority? They don't need no Constitutional authority! They are the Almighty G, and need not answer for what they do! Seriously, if the G hadn't been standing behind Freddie & Fannie from the jump, we could have avoided all this mess; besides, the G already has an agency devoted to this...the FHA. I know because my sister got her mortgage with their help back in the early 90's, but she had to have gainful employment and a stable work history before she could get the loan...unlike those loans Freddie & Fannie were handing out like party favors! And Greenspan thinks he is still the oracle, as seen by his latest pronouncements...I wish he would just go away!

Crawfish: It's also mighty funny how much Obama's campaign recieved from Freddie & Fannie, ain't it? I guess when F&F are throwing checks your way, it's easy to ignore their malfeasence!

Philos: These Washington types are like herpes: You can treat the symptoms, but the virus is always there! And as long as the electorate is willing to put up with this type of behavior, then they will continue to dish it out. One of my poli-sci professors said it best, "If you are angry at the way your politicians are acting, and at what they are doing, give them a break...they are only giving the people what they asked for. If you don't like them, you need to look at yourself in the mirror!"

Speaking about ads

Here's a McCain ad I saw on TV last night:

"Twin Mavericks

"He took on the GOP and reformed Washington

"SHE took on the GOP and reformed Alaska."

Um.... exactly what party do these people think they're running in?

All those who are holding your noses..... THAT'S what McCain thinks of YOU, your PARTY, and CONSERVATIVES IN GENERAL.

Because just exactly WHO has McCain been "taking on" in Washington the last 20 years? It sure as HELL wasn't the liberals, who all have their names on his bills as co-sponsors.

It's the CONSERVATIVES whose eyes he's poked out, while taking great pride in doing so.

You want to vote for that guy???????

Brian

Taking on the GOP does not mean taking on conservatives, since they are not one and the same. On the McCain side of the ledger we know he has butted heads with the conservative base...that's nothing new at all. What's he supposed to do, pretend like he has been the loyal GOP soldier all along? His record is what it is, and at least he's not trying to run from it. In Palin's case the Alaskan GOP was a rotten machine style organization and needed to be taken on. That Gov. Palin was able to root out the corrupt incumbent and send him packing is a good thing. Should she have simply allowed the GOP machine to go on operating as usual, or should she have gone after the corrupt and tried to restore the Party to a position of respect? If the Party was corrupt and had to be taken on, there's nothing wrong with laying claim to that. Better to stand on your record than run from it.
