They all want us to go away? Let's give them what they want. We'll go away for a little while, and then when the embers cool, we'll bury the what's left and start over with a vision for true freedom, like the founders had.

The U.S to the world- "I am God!"
I'm like the neighbor that doesn't fit in anywhere! I'm purple. Isn't that what red and blue make? Why do you all think that the United States has to police the world? Iraq is the quagmire that the United States has created because of our mucking around with their government, trying to manipulate it in the best interests of the U.S.,for well over 50 years. They had a right to their own future, even if it would have ended up worse than we made it. (if that's possible!) Why are we giving billions of dollars to all of these countries every year, and borrowing it from China to boot. You all have blinders on when it comes to the war mongering Republicans. When are you going to realize that Glen Beck is nothing more than a government shill, he can't do what he's doing without the approval of the media mogels?

If you truly believe this Bonnie, then why didn't you agree with what Arik wrote?
You would have said that Arik was correct and the "satire" he wrote was what should really happen. Instead, you wrote that the Republicans are "war-mongers" and Glen Beck a "paid" shrill.
In other words, you are drinking kool-aide, even though your party is COMPLETELY in power.
Unless you are a Marxist.

Well, that certainly is not my party. I'm probably more conservative than all you guys put together. I would have to say, anyone that endorses either party is drinking the kool-aide. Obama, with a quarter century indoctrination under his belt. Brzezinski and his Trilateral Commission circles, including that old shriveled up but (unfortunately)still active David Rockefeller managed a repeat of their Carter administration of 1976, and with his links to Chechen Terrorism, Obama, the current White House puppet president. Then, there was McCain, the borderline psychotic. Republican Senator Thad Cochran of Mississippi said of McCain, "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine." McCain is known for his fits of rage, making him an easy target for neo-con puppeteers, "People for a New American Century" (PNAC)as Bush was.
After the death of FDR in 1945, the financier oligarchy in Wall Street swore that they would never again permit an American president to actually exercise the powers prescribed by the Constitution. George Bush accumulated power not assigned to the president by the Constitution, but it was (and is) all the better for the oligarchical system to manipulate the world with. But now this is off subject. Sorry!

Welcome!
You may THINK you're purple, but your comments and questions appear to lean decidedly to the blue end of the spectrum.
The point of the essay is not that I THINK the U.S. should police the world, but that the U.S. IS policing the world, to their benefit, at their request, while they continue to malign us. If they want us out, as they say (in public), let's get out.
The simple fact is that most of the peace and prosperity in the last half century is due to the U.S. prescence on the world stage.
The Middle East is a foreign policy disaster, dating back far beyond WWII. To lay the blame solely at the feet of the U.S. is naive and incorrect.
What is your opinion on what we should do in Darfur? What should we have done in Rwanda? These are actually minor injustices compared to what was going on in Iraq prior to the invasion. Should we ignore those, as well?
Why are we borrowing all that money? To pay for Obama's master plan to subjugate all of us. I disagree with it as much as you appear to.
Glenn Beck is nothing more than a government shill? For which government? For Obama and the democRats? That's insane!

Bonnie (Again)
Don't assume that all of us were enchanted with Bush or McCain. They were simply better choices than their opponents, not the best candidates, in either case.
Bush beat Gore because Gore lacked any sort of charisma, and had a patronizing attitude toward the citizens of the country. Forget Florida: If Gore had not been the only modern presidential candidate to lose his own HOME STATE, Florida wouldn't have mattered in the slightest.
In 2004, all the democRats had to do to beat Bush was nominate someone more appealing than Gore. They nominated Kerry. Hence, Bush: the 2nd term.
In 2008, the democRats finally figured out that they needed someone charismatic, and, instead of nominating a true conservative, went with McCain. Personally, I preferred Huckabee: He's genuine, honest, likeable, soft-spoken, yet carries a power with him that Obama can only dream of possessing: Faith in something bigger than himself.
I certainly am not happy with a lot of the Republican actions. The best that can be said is that they are (slightly) better than the democRats. What I believe we need is a Federalist Party that brings Constitutionalism back into prominence.
And frankly, I'm confused as to what you mean about FDR and the Constitution. The Constitution was FDR's biggest obstacle; He spent his entire presidency trying to work around it, to ensure his party kept power for as long as possible.

What would really happen if we pulled out of everywhere?
Don't get me wrong I supported knocking the cr@p out of Afganistan and Iraq but we have been wasting our time with nation building nonsense that will never work and which we cannot afford.
We have spent $1,000,000,000,000 building Iraq and Afganistan while we are $10,000,000,000,000+ in debt.
If we had left after destroying Saddam's military and the Taliban's stranglehold the cost would have been about 5% of what we have wasted.

Welcome!
What would happen if the U.S. pulled out of all countries simulateously? Pretty much what I've described: After a few "feeler" expeditions to determine our seriousness, tyrants and dictators would move to expand their power and territory. We're not the "World's policeman" by choice, but by necessity.
If we had just toppled the regimes in Iraq and Afghanistan, they would have descended into chaos. Afghhanistan is precariously close as it is, though Iraq is slowly becoming a stable democracy.
More to the point, even if chaos had not resulted, the best that could have been hoped for would have been a repeat of our mistakes following WWI, setting up a new Weimar Germany, with a beaten, poverty-ridden people desparate for any way to bring back some standard of living.
Could Iraq have been handled better? Certainly, but to just knock Hussein down and leave would have caused more problems than it solved. The costs of rebuilding Iraq are truly an investment in THIS nation's security.
If only we'd finished the job in Gulf War I...

The Founders also understood about Projection of Power, as evidenced in Jefferson's efforts against the Barbary Pirates. Some diseases can be easily cured, and some need to be excised. The idea in Iraq was to defeat the enemy there with as little damage to the civilian structure as possible, as they were not our enemies. Leaving them to fend for themselves afterward would certainly have turned them into enemies. As it is, we have a potential ally in a region where precious few exist.
Also, where do we have large deployments of troops in the region? Iraq and Afghanistan. Who is giving trouble in the region? Iran. What two countries border Iran? Iraq and Afghanistan. I suspect there was far more going on behind the scenes before President Chamberlain took over.

And while I think Bush will be looked at more kindly by history for most of his presidency, the last six months were a total disaster. It was like he wanted to out-Obama Obama. He shouldn't have spent a dime on TARP, etc. Let Obama come in without Bush to blame the dificit on, like they are STILL doing.
